Introduction

9 of us got together before the Blizzard for wines from Oregon and Washington.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2015 The Eyrie Vineyards Pinot Gris Original Vines USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
Intense up front nose. Pineapple. Tropical. Rich tasting wine, but has acidity to keep in check. This is a large scale wine. One comment was it tasted like skin contact orange wine sometimes does. Agreed. But in full throttle mode. Not my cup of tea.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Minimus Wines No. 17 "48 Months" USA, Oregon
This had a nice nose but the taste paled in comparison. Thin. Ethan commented like a spritzer. Agreed. Just didn't have a nice body or flavor profile.

Red
2014 Domaine Nicolas-Jay Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
First time with this wine. Nice. Deep body. Clean. Has some tertiary notes in its youth. I think this will age quite nicely. I would be curious to try in 5 years.
Red
2014 Cameron Pinot Noir Abbey Ridge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
I haven't had an abbey ridge since the 2007. Boy this style has changes. No longer funky, stinky horses ass type wine. This got clean. Fruit is nice. Rather deep. I was so surprised this was a Cameron wine.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2013 Kelley Fox Wines Pinot Noir Maresh Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
good. But tough to judge at this early stage. Wine is disjointed and needs o integrate.
Red
2010 Arterberry Maresh Pinot Noir Loie's Block Maresh USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
pretty damn lovely. No decant. Opened for an hour or so. Shoes great nose of fruit and serious depth. Color of wine is rather pale. But not the nose or palate. Surprisingly after an hour or two it falls off a bit. So maybe would drink this within next year or so.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2008 Evening Land Vineyards Pinot Noir Seven Springs Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
Of all the pinots tonight. This showed the most oak. And kind of felt parallel to a few negociant types wine in burgundy that use oak, and the wines need time to come around. I enjoyed this, and like when the oak integrates in to pretty fruit. Others found this their least favorite wine of the night.
Red
2015 Kelley Fox Wines Pinot Noir Mirabai USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
Compared to all the other wines this showed poorly. Rather simple.

Flight 5 (2 notes)

Red
2007 Cayuse Syrah Armada Vineyard USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
See notes for 2014 no girls. Same darn nose. Amazing. Different grape variety. Same nose. This has developed into a beauty. 3 years ago, this was a hot mess and i sold off half my stash. Now i am glad i own the rest. Pretty cool what people are doing with Syrah in Washington

Red
2012 No Girls Grenache USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
This has the same exact nose/quaff of the cayuse 2007 armada. It must be a thing that the wine maker does. I liked this, surprisingly, as I was thinking this would be an over extracted bomabastic wine... but it wasn't. It was seriously funky. And yet clean. Brambly red fruits with tons of funkadelic bass.

Flight 6 (1 note)

Red
2014 Reynvaan Family Vineyards Syrah In the Rocks USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
Super tight and grapey and primary. this never opened up. Not a bit. Reminds me of some natural type wines from St Joseph. Tough to judge, but for me, not a good showing.
