White - Off-dry
2010 Weingut Keller Abts E® Riesling Spätlese Germany, Rheinhessen
91 points
Still very youthful with hints of aromas from the spontaneous fermentationripe mixed with white peach and a hint of exotic fruit. Lively and well interwoven acidity (vintage), long, stoney finish. Still potential left.
White - Off-dry
2010 Zilliken (Forstmeister Geltz) Saarburger Rausch Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
From Magnum. Very ripe in style. Yellow stone fruit, a bit of vanilla and honey on the nose. Ripe and unusual sweet for a Zilliken from this cooler vintage. David Rayer from Mosel Fine Wines who was sitting next to me, told me that the 2010 from Zilliken are in a kind of a "down phase" at the moment. Would give it 5-10 years.

2010 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
93 points
From Magnum. Grünhaus definitely winning this first flight of three Spätlese from the 2010 vintage. So delicate, fine but super precise and with a lot of tension. Great acidity kick. Almost floating. Grünhaus has a very unique style you immediately recognize from the first nose and sip. A wonderful wine with lots of potential left for a long life.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
A very pure, lean interpretation of a Champagner, which I always prefer before one with higher dosage. Lots of lime, citrus and white fruit mixed with just a hint of yeast on the nose. Precise with high acid on the palate. Very good with raw cod & sushi.
White
2004 Emrich-Schönleber Monzinger Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Nahe
flawed
Unfortunately corked. Would have been a great counterpart of the Hubacker.
White
2004 Weingut Keller Hubacker Riesling Großes Gewächs Germany, Rheinhessen
94 points
The 2004 Hubacker is one of the better vintages from this little piece, the Keller family owned since a long, long time. Yellow stone fruit, citrus, peach and a certain kind of spices. Klaus-Peter Keller told me, that this comes from the short skin contact he did in this year. Phenolic, grasping with still a lively acidity, good finish and it will stay at this level for another 5-10 years imo. Definitely a very good bottle of Hubacker.
White
2004 Künstler Hochheimer Hölle Riesling Auslese Goldkapsel Trocken Germany, Rheingau
89 points
I expected a lot from this very highly praised dry Hölle Auslese GK, but this bottle already seems a bit tired and misses tension and the last acidity kick. Yellow, ripened stone fruit and a hint of mineral stones. The palate taking up the minerality on the back end but without the longest finish.
White
2004 Weingut Keller Riesling Trocken 'S' Germany, Rheinhessen
90 points
Still in a very good shape. Some riper aromas like hints of petrol and yellow fruit on the nose mixed with a splash of citrus and grapefruit. The acidity is integrated into a nice amount of yellow fruit, pear and a hint of sweetness on the finish.
White
1999 Dr. Bürklin-Wolf Deidesheimer Hohenmorgen Riesling Germany, Pfalz
89 points
The Hohenmorgen still drinking well after 17 years on the bottle. Fully developed nose with yellow pear, white peach and a hint of patrol. Elegant drive on the palate although the wine doesn't have the last kick and tension. Slightly "watery". Medium finish. Good but not very good or outstanding stuff. Would drink up soon.

2007 Weingut Keller Riesling G-Max Germany, Rheinhessen
93 points
From Magnum (the first Magnum of G-Max I've seen, but I can tell you, that there are also Double-Mags from this legendary juice). Very interesting to compare this bottle to the one I've had some weeks ago during out "Riesling-10 Years back" tasting. I have to say, that I found this wine not as good as from the normal bottle. It's still very young and withdrawn in a certain kind of way. But it's missing the last precision, clarity and vibration I know from the very best Keller wines. I'm not sure if it will ever become as good as the outrageous 2001 was last year. The 2007 is even a hint to round and sweet on the palate. Don't get me wrong, we talking about one of the best dry white wines out of Germany, but I can understand why the Mosel Fine Wines guys gave it the rating it has. David Rayer explained it to me and said that the whole truth is in the glass. You have to clear your mind and just rate whats is in the glass. Don't look at the label or so. A very eye opening conversation for me.
Nevertheless I think the G-Max has still potential left.

Damn it, my only bottle and it was corked. Hurts quite a bit.

2009 François Raveneau Chablis 1er Cru Butteaux France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
93 points
This was my very first Raveneau and love from the first sight. Although I know, that this might be not the most fitting vintage for this kind of style this Butteaux showed lovely light and nearly seamless. Citrus, lime zest and green apple mixed with a mineral/calk component. Wonderful balance, quite a bit of fruit on the palate, very fresh and long. A real beauty. Unfortunately these wines are so unbelievable expensive nowadays.

1997 Von Schubert Maximin Grünhäuser Abtsberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
94 points
Definitely one of the wines of the night. Fresh like a Daisy with this unbelievable lightness, only the best estates from the Mosel/Saar/Ruwer could deliver. Fresh sliced white pear, gooseberry, zesty lemon, white flowers, a hint of cassis and the typical Grünhaus "greenness" with herbal and mint components. Elegant and wonderful integrated acidity on the palate. Good amount of fruit in the mid palate which last into the long finish. A wonderful showing with so much potential left.

1994 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese Auction Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
94 points
Not as elegant as the Grünhaus with more fruit flavors like yellow fruit, a bit of lime and a peachy component. More power than the Grünhaus with a nice structure in the mid palate and high acidity which gives a special kick on the back end. A striking wine imo which is drinking beautifully at the moment. Will stay at this level for another decade, so no need to hurry.

1999 Markus Molitor Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese ** (White Capsule) Auction Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
Maybe this Auction wine had a hard standing after the two sweeties, but I miss the depth and tension I expect from a Auction wine. A bit watery and with some yellow, unripe stone fruit. Drinking well but not outstanding stuff. We had a big discussion afterwards, because some people out of our round said that Molitor always produce good, but never very good wine.

2007 Felix Keller (Weingut Keller) Bürgel Cuvée Felix trocken Germany, Rheinhessen
89 points
This is a very special Cuvee out of Dornfelder and Portugieser, Klaus-Peter Keller older son Felix "did" together with David Rayer (Mosel Fine Wines and a good friend of the Keller family). They labeled it under the name of Felix Keller. I think the wine didn´t go into the market. It was just for fun. The interesting thing is, that it was bottled without any sulfur. Although it is still very fresh and wonderful to drink. It reminds me a bit of a Ganevat red blend or something. This is really solid wine and a nice food pairing.

2007 Weingut Keller Spätburgunder "FR" Trocken Auction Germany, Rheinhessen
92 points
Double blind, we all registered very quickly that this wine was a Pinot Noir. Very cool expression with some red fruit, herbs and a wet stone component on the nose. Underneath there is something complex and dark which I couldn´t really get. Good length and depth on the palate. Again with some stone elements and well integrated acidity. Definitely one of the better Pinot Noirs I´ve had out of Germany and in a certain way still young, although I doubt that it will be better in a decade.

2010 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
This is just a very pure interpretation of how Pinot Noir could be. I doubt that I´ve ever had a wine which was more fine than this 1er Cru from Chambolle-Musigny. You have this typical super fine red fruit (raspberry and red cherry) mixed with herbs, wet stone and just a hint of sweetness. So fine and elegant. On the palate the wine is nearly transparent, but still deliver such a fine fruit impression. This Chambolle-Musigny is all about finesse. Not a wine for a blind tasting. You would overlook it. Its even more impressive if you know, that Charles Van Canneyt was only 21 years old as he bottled this wonderful stuff.

2010 Domaine Duroché Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Duroche is one of the hottest Domains in Burgundy right now. This 2010 Charmes-Chambertin showed well but didn´t blow me away. A cool interpretation with some more flesh on the bone than the Chambolle-Musigny before. Soil driven on the palate with herbs and wet earth. Good length. Should be better in recent vintages.

2013 Weingut Keller Niersteiner Pettenthal Riesling Kabinett Germany, Rheinhessen
93 points
This beauty was served double blind and from Magnum. At first I thought it might be something from Schäfer-Fröhlich because it has this typical note from the spontaneous fermentation. This quickly turned into a kind of slate component and I changed my mind in the direction of the Mosel and J.J. Prüm. I was very surprised after KP Keller showed us the label. Alongside the strong minerality you get fine fruit aromas like white peach, fresh sliced apple and orange zest. Everything is well integrated. Still very fresh and with a strong acidity (2013) on the palate. Wonderful play between the slight sweetness and acid. Flows down very easy. KP Keller really knows how to make a good Kabi.
White - Off-dry
2004 Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Riesling Spätlese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
91 points
Lots of peach, candied citrus and some herbs on the nose but in a not very intense way. Good focus on the palate but the wine seems to be a bit to sweet imo although it was a cooler vintage in Germany. I miss the racy acidity the Egon wines could deliver in their best years. Maybe this Spätlese only needs some more cellar time, because the vintage was one of the very best in the last decade.

2002 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Spätlese Auction Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
95 points
After the last dessert KP Keller asked David for another "light sip" and he blinded us with this stunner. It has everything you've want from a Spätlese. Sometimes I had my problems with J.J. Prüm, but when they are very good like here, not many producers in the Mosel could keep up with them. A super elegant nose with white peach, garden herbs, white flowers and just a hint of sweetness. Like a animating sea breeze. On the palate this flows down like a alpine brook. So fresh, easy drinking with just a hint of creaminess. Long finish. An absolutely incredible showing. Unfortunately the Auction wines from J.J. are very expensive.

N.V. Jacques Lassaigne Champagne Extra Brut Blanc de Blancs La Colline Inspirée France, Champagne
89 points
The last wine of the evening. A bit to broad and oxidative for me. Lots of ripe apple and yeast. Maybe I'm to critical and the wine also had a hard standing after all these off-dry stuff before.
