Flight 1 (13 notes)

White - Sparkling
2016 Fattoria Moretto Frizzante Secco Emilia IGT Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Emilia IGT
85 points
Pricy ($19) for a Charmat tank process wine, this is a quite pleasant bubble that is well balanced clean, citrus, and fresh. Essentially a simple wine that needs to be less than $15.
White
2015 Domaine Barat Chablis 1er Cru Côte de Léchet France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
82 points
High free SO2 dominated the nose. Clean otherwise with a hint of citrus and a slightly flat acid balance and a vague exit. Not particularly impressive at this point. There are definitely better wines out there.
Red
2016 Marcel Lapierre Raisins Gaulois France, Vin de France
82 points
Sweet and juicy but lighthearted and simple, not for me today.
Red
2014 La Basia Garda Le Morene Italy, Lombardia / Veneto, Garda
87 points
Nice nose, the acidity is a bit austere but it leads to a lovely finish. Very nice lighter red.
Red
2015 Jean-Claude Regnaudot Maranges 1er Cru La Fussière France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Maranges 1er Cru
89 points
Spicy and lush, but I detected a slightly dull note also (maybe borderline corked). Very nice Burgundy despite that.
Red
2015 Domaine Faury St. Joseph (Hedonism) France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, St. Joseph
88 points
Classic dark and stewy, meaty Syrah. Lovely but not interesting today for my cellar, not sure why?

Rosé - Sparkling
2016 Sommariva Venezia il Rosa Extra Dry Italy, Veneto, Venezia
87 points
Really nice, fresh clean and quite dry
White
2016 Mahi Sauvignon Blanc New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
82 points
Clean but very subdued NZ Sauvignon Blanc. The very mild Lychee nose leads to a slightly flat acid balance and mildly sweet finish. Rather innocuous and forgettable but okay at the time.
Red
2015 Kuentz-Bas Pinot Noir France, Alsace
85 points
At the right time and place this wine would work. Today it is a bit unassuming and vague as a Pinot. It does have texture, acid balance, and some substance, but it only whispers Pinot to me. Maybe with bottle aging more will come.
Red
2015 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Télégramme France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
83 points
Lighter color and spicy but seems incomplete and a bit simple in the mouth. As a red wine it is okay but at $46 a ripoff. I added a bit of 2015 Faury St Joseph and it was much better. I think they have lost their way.
Red
2015 Château Feuillet Fumin Valle d'Aosta Italy, Valle d'Aosta
88 points
I like this wine at tastings and never buy it. Fruit bomb and juicy but $36 it doesn't work for me. Very nice wine but I can find similar at half the price.
Red
2015 Corte Gardoni Corvina Becco Rosso Veronese IGT Italy, Veneto, Veronese IGT
84 points
Spicy and soft, more of a dark rose. I liked it because of its classic flavors. I have other similar wines in the cellar so did not buy this and at $19 not really a value.
Red
2014 Odoardi Savuto Rosso Italy, Calabria, Savuto
87 points
Bright and complex fresh fruit and spice nose. Juicy and balanced in mouth with a hint of spice. Full and structured exit. Very nice young style wine. Great value at $13
