Flight 1 (12 notes)

Red
1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Cloudy dark core with crimson rim; nose shows rust, tobacco, dark fruit, leather, bell pepper, red currants; some sour fruit on the palate, higher acid for Cabernet, loamy, leather, lighter on fruit, resolved feel to it, some edginess to the tannin; people torn between CA and Bordeaux, I was in Oakville '91, this bottle just didn't have the pedigree this wine normally shows.
Red
2010 Paolo Scavino Barolo Riserva Rocche dell'Annunziata Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
See through maroon; high toned nose, sweet strawberry, candied roses, almost cherry bubblegum, elegant, floral; firm tannin, fine but grippy tannins that clamp down on finish, sweet middle, elegant cherry liqueur and rose water; way too young, why did this get opened?
Red
2005 Claude Dugat Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Cloudier dark maroon, bright rim; some stank on the nose, nutty, dark fruit, whole cluster, cured meat, sour dark cherry, plum, youthful and reduced; big on the palate, powerful, earth, plenty of grip, dark fruit that is big but has a certain plushness to the acids, strong tannin on finish; not showing well, probably needed a day or more of aeration and more cellaring.
Red
2007 Masi Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Campolongo di Torbe Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico
Dense dark reddish violet, bright maroon rim; dark red fruit, slight tar, raspberry, dark, kind of hard; liqueur on the palate, high alcohol, sweet; good, but sorry I didn't spend more time with this; called 2010 Pra.
Red
2010 La Pousse d'Or Volnay 1er Cru Clos d'Audignac France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Red core with duller rim, orange hues; elegant, floral, roses, soft sexy cherry, strawberry, some new oak; good intensity on the palate, focused, just a tad short on the finish; overall delicious.

Red
1990 Château Mont-Redon Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Orange core with sediment; rusty nose, root vegetables, mushroom, Grenache nose, slight bitter red fruit note, stinky, elegant, refined, sappy, almost Pignan-like but the stink made me call '95 Pegau.
Red
2009 Domaine du Pégau Châteauneuf-du-Pape Cuvée Réservée France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Dark maroon rim; horsey, some age, CdP, bitter Grenache note, sour red fruit, raspberry, classic, good fruit and richness, amount of glycerin on the palate suggests younger; called '05 Pegau.

Red
2010 Domaine Ponsot Corton Cuvée du Bourdon France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Bright pinkish ruby; intense floral and strawberries, great core of cherry, lighter and elegant with firm mineral spine; spicy core of fruit and mineral on the palate, young; needs lots of air if opening now; delicious.
Red
2011 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Riserva Asili Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Bright ruby; light and elegant nose, young, sexy, a little cinnamon, has yet to put on some weight, higher alcohol, riper vintage; a bit simpler at this stage but tasty.

Red
2012 Argiano Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark ruby with lighter crimson rim; some reduction on the nose, cedar, slight vegetal note, hard red fruit, lots of intense cherry; good tannic grip but more accessible than the '10, not as much oak either; very good.
White
2007 Mount Eden Vineyards Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains
Golden yellow; golden apple, lemon curd, classic, Burg like with fatness of New World, still good acid drive but softening with its age; very good.
Red
2013 Barone Ricasoli Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Colledila Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Dark core with maroon rim; brick dust, masculine nose, sour cherry, roses, classic Sangio, good enough to be Brunello, intoxicating nose; nice texture on the palate, good mid palate, pleasant grip though very drinkable, dried and fresh cherry, touch of oak, noble; very good.

Closing

The Ponsot came on late and was my WOTN. The Pousse d'Or and Mont-Redon were also very nice.
