Introduction

All wines were tasted blind.

The final flight was decanted for 4 hours.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2015 Cruz Alta Chardonnay Reserve Argentina, Mendoza
91 points
Extremely stinky nose that dissipates quickly within the first 5 minutes.

ignoring the nose, it is mellow and oaky on the palate.
White
2014 Sinclair Estate Vineyards Chardonnay USA, Washington, Columbia Valley
90 points
More of a classic lightly wooded USA Chardonnay with acidity in the finish.
White
2016 March Wines Riesling Old Vine Redwing Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Clara County
90 points
Citrus lemon nose with a hint of rose and apricot.

Flight 2 (3 notes)

Red
2014 Clos du Val Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
87 points
Light wood on the nose and significant pepper on the body - I would never have guessed this was a cabernet. Moderate tannins and a dry finish.
Red
2014 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
86 points
A light fruit nose. Dark red in color and ultra woody taste on the mouth. Tannins are moderately heavy (7.5) with a moderate finish.

I would never have guessed that this was Napa.
Red
2004 RingBolt Cabernet Sauvignon Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River
86 points
Brown edge shows the age. Light chalk, paper and wood nose.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
2013 Ty Caton TyTanium Caton Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Moon Mountain District
93 points
"Dark ruby red. On the nose some fruit, light menthol and woody.

This had a 4 hour decant. The petit verdot comes through in the finish as usual for pv. Some pencil graphite late mid palate after a classic merlot flatness."

My rating may be a little high? 92?

Red
2014 Louis Nel CWG Unobtainium South Africa, Coastal Region, Stellenbosch
89 points
This is a dark but slightly transparent red color with dryness in the nose. Tannins are moderately strong (7.5) and dry acidity comes through in the finish. A little austere and steely. It will be great to see this on day 2.
