Results from the Chardonnay tasting

Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2002 Martinelli Chardonnay Woolsey Road USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley

Some yeastiness with nice pineapple notes. Good acidity, too. A bit of carnation on the nose, too (aka stink flower) Golden in color, this was quite nice and had a nice amount of milky smoothness to it, but not enough to wash out the refreshing acidity. Delicious.

Pale & clear, zingy, minerals, river rocks, slate, painfully dry finish, a little bit stemmy. Quite drinkable, though.

1999 Joseph Drouhin Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault

Clear, medium gold, lily, cherry blossom, honey liquer, a bit of oak, almost a smelly cheese smell (or feet -- but it blew off). A well mannered wine. Nice. Great bouquet.

Lemony with peppermint gum toothpaste (aka Barbie doll), very light, probably mass produced, bowl of plastic fruit, etc....

Light, somewhat cloudy, with nice acidity. Melon zing, with a bit of nuts and wood around the edges. Pretty good.

2003 Kendall-Jackson Chardonnay Vintner's Reserve USA, California

Great nose, almost Viognier-like, honeysuckle melon, vanilla, but it had a faint sweetness to it that held my rating back a bit. Still, quite refreshing. I was surprised to see this wine when it was revealed.
