Flight 1 - Blind Chardonnay Flight (4 notes)

White
2011 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
93 points
Tasted double blind. Lemon peel and lemon custard with a grassy note and intense mineral textures. Very good energy and length. Easily the standout wine in the flight.

White
2011 Vincent Dancer Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Tasted double blind. Slightly reductive start. Floral and rich aromas, while much leaner on palate. Concentrated if not rich flavors, but oddly not quite harmonious. Atypical for the producer.
White
2013 Castello di Ama Al Poggio Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
87 points
Tasted double blind. Floral and rich that seems extravagant to start, even faintly sweet, then quickly leaner and tighter middle-to-finish. Enjoyable.

White
2012 Liquid Farm Chardonnay Golden Slope USA, California, Central Coast, Sta. Rita Hills
90 points
Tasted double blind. Nicely floral with ripe apple and candied lemon peel. Very good fruit and concentration, moderate finesse and length. Very easy to identify as New World Chardonnay, which made identified the flight's overall theme much easier. While I certainly enjoyed this wine, others liked this more tonight.

Flight 2 - Blind "Lighter" French Red Flight (3 notes)

Red
2006 Jacques Puffeney Poulsard Arbois "M" France, Jura, Arbois
81 points
Tasted double blind. Pale and lacking fruit or substance. This wine was a baffling mystery to me, but I'm not a Jura-phile. I thought it might be a fading 40 yo Barolo.
Red
2006 Maison Champy Volnay 1er Cru Taillepieds France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
89 points
Tasted double blind. Black and red cherry with savory spice, coming across as nicely fresh, still nicely fresh. Moderate structure and nicely balanced. Moderate weight and length. There is no hurry to drink up, but I doubt this will get better.
Red
2005 Domaine de la Voute des Crozes Côte de Brouilly France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Côte de Brouilly
86 points
Tasted double blind. Lots of red cherry with a firm and rugged structure that shocked me when unveiled as Gamay. Good fruit is the start here, but there is a bitter finish that didn't thrill me.

Flight 3 - Blind Cabernet-based Flight (3 notes)

Red
1998 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
92 points
Tasted double blind. Easily identifiable as Left Bank Bordeaux, I thought it from 2000. Black plum and currant with cigarbox and cocoa. Much better bottle than the last two times I tasted this in 2015. This had been opened 2.5 hours before serving, with a quick double decant when opened.

Red
1998 Diamond Creek Cabernet Sauvignon Gravelly Meadow USA, California, Napa Valley, Diamond Mountain
90 points
Tasted double blind. Black cherry, plum aromas and flavors with very good balance. Nicely elegant. Moderate weight and length. I thought it from Bordeaux.

Red
1998 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
92 points
Tasted double blind. Very ripe and slightly oaky, clearly very modern styled, with moderate finesse. The faint green pepper note was actually my favorite aspect of the wine, in that it provided a nice contrasting note. Richness and concentration made this easy to enjoy, even if slightly lacking nuance.

Flight 4 - Blind Syrah-based Flight (3 notes)

Red
2005 Rene Rostaing Côte-Rôtie Cuvée Classique France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Côte-Rôtie
89 points
Tasted double blind. Came across as very northern Rhone with black cherry and black pepper. Moderate weight, length and complexity, but at a very pleasant and enjoyable place for the near-term.

Red
2005 Lost Highway Shiraz Marsanne Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Tasted double blind. This is an ultra modern and concentrated wine, certainly not in a style I enjoy.

Red
2006 Sine Qua Non Syrah Raven Series USA, California, Central Coast
93 points
Tasted double blind. Very clearly top notch Cali Syrah, with rich and concentrated black cherry supported with slightly sweet spice. Very dense and long. Probably some upside as hints of sweetness might lessen. Still very harmonious, even with that slight sweetness.

Flight 5 - Blind Dessert Flight (2 notes)

White - Sweet/Dessert
1995 Château Coutet Barsac France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
86 points
Tasted double blind. Seemed very Sauternes/ Barsac with plenty of botrytis and apricot, but slightly lacking complexity.
White - Off-dry
1996 Meulenhof Erdener Prälat Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
80 points
Tasted double blind. Seemed demi-sec with a bitter finish. A few people correctly identified this as Riesling, but I found it more non-descript.

Flight 6 - Bonus Wine (1 note)

Red
1969 Domaine Jean Gros Richebourg France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
93 points
Bonus bottle, also tasted double blind. Very clearly mature Burgundy from a ripe vintage. I thought it 1971 Grand Cru. Lots of spice and fully mature red cherry with plenty of slowly cooked shiitake mushrooms. Not quite as fresh as another bottle from the same source tasted in 2014, but almost as good. Popped-decanted-and-poured, this was best when first poured, then slightly less robust when finished 20 minutes later.
