Tasted August 19, 2017 by chatters with 169 views

Introduction

Second Beaujolais tasting this year at Prince (are they trying to make a point?) And only one of which made it to both tastings.

Flight 1 (12 notes)

Red
2016 Château Cambon Beaujolais France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
Cream, cherry, very slight stalks, earthy /mineral notes, slightly tart but not unpleasantly so, fruit is a little short and there is some mid palate burr.

Red
2016 Château Cambon Brouilly France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly
Slightly meaty elements but cherry, slight confected berry notes, spice, juicy, fresh, slightly sour cherry with some tannic grip. Kind of nice.
Red
2014 Pierre Boyat Beaujolais-Leynes Noir de Rouge France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Leynes
Barnyard, meaty over quite ripe cherry fruit and lozenge. Tart tannic, lacks fruit. Meh.
Red
2015 Stephen Durieu de Lacarelle Beaujolais-Villages Lou y es tu ? France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Beaujolais-Villages
slightly dusty chemical notes as well as a touch of horse shit over pretty cherry and raspberry fruit and touches of white peppery spice. Fruitier on the palate with some slightly gritty mid palate grip. Hmm
Red
2016 Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Les Griottes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
Ashy stalks, savoury, woody spice. Wet, tart with slight coffee grounds. Taninns are drying. Meh.
Red
2016 Pierre-Marie Chermette Beaujolais Vieilles Vignes Cuvée Traditionnelle France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
Ashy, quite ripe fruit though, touch jubey. Little tart and sharp on the palate. Tannins are softer than the Griottes but still meh for me.
Red
2016 Anne Sophie Dubois Fleurie Les Cocottes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Quite rich, cherry fruit, slight cream and a little earthiness. Juicy, again quite rich for a Beaujolais with talc textured tannin. Medium length - the fruit doesn't really travel but otherwise this is rather pleasant.
Red
2016 Paul Durdilly Beaujolais Les Grandes Coasses France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
Most confected wine of the tasting; lovely pretty cherry with slight floral - especially rose - notes. In the mouth it's tangy, juicy, jubey, classis Beaujolais for me.
Red
2014 Château de Beauregard (Joseph Burrier) Fleurie Colonies de Rochegres France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Fleurie
Wild ferment, slightly gamey notes, spiced over muted cherry, lightweight but balance of acidity, tannins a and fruit is exceedingly good. A little short though.
Red
2015 Dominique Piron Morgon Côte du Py France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
Crushed rock, graphite, slight funkiness, almost black cherry and berry here. In the mouth it's juicy with black hued fruit, plentiful tannic grip, savoury as well. Time required but kind of yummy.
Red
2013 Lilian & Sophie Bauchet Vin de France Sur La Root France, Vin de France
Confected, pretty fruit, cherry, slightly bretty as well, quite jubey with slight earthy dusty notes and touches of almost caramel and Kirsch. Perhaps a lacks a little acidity but the fruit is equally pretty on the palate. Tannins are fine and talc textured. Hmm.
Red
2015 Pierre Cotton Brouilly France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Brouilly
Gamey, bretty, almost, farmyard over slightly unripe cherry fruit, spice. Mouth watering acidity, tight tannins, slight black tea and the fruit is a little sharp and unripe and sharp. Nah.

Closing

Rather splendid but not as splendid as the last one…A couple of nice wines here
