Red
2014 Greywacke Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
91 points
Red fruit exploding from the glass, bright and ripe, a nutty and smoky element, very welcoming, some dried herbs here as well.
In the palate, the fruit is also bright, the oak is more pronounced, herbs again, nice body and acidity, ripe but not heavy, elegant, etheral, smooth, nice for food and on its own. Finish is med to long.
With more time in the glass, it gets smokier
Red
2014 Ata Rangi Pinot Noir New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
92 points
At first, if felt lighter next to Greywacke, but with more time it kept growing. There is a bright red fruit core, ripe and fresh, brilliant use of oak, nutty.
Much spicier in the palate, oakier (compared to Greywacke), ripe red fruit again, the acidity is more pronounced, this is definately a step up in quality, density and complexity. Long finish, a wine to keep
Red
2014 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir Moonlight Race New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
91 points
Red and black fruit, ripe, "biodynamic" style, not that clean fruit, more European-like, coffee nutty, oaky frame, asian-spice, cinnamon, clove, some reduction, nothing to worry about.
In the palate, the wine shows the same profile but lacking the depth of flavor, more linear, lackes the ripeness, shows acidity, more on the red fruit fruit, med body, med to long finish
Red
2014 Burn Cottage Pinot Noir Burn Cottage Vineyard New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago
93 points
The wine needs time in the glass, its much spicier, clove, nutmeg, there is a ripe black fruit core in the glass, the spice is the main element, there is an oak frame, feels quite tight still.
In the palate, the wine shows the same profile as the nose, ripe red fruit, smoky, spicy, tight, nice acidity, med body, long finish, needs time
Red
2014 Dry River Pinot Noir New Zealand, North Island, Wairarapa, Martinborough
93 points
no 06291
Its still very tight and closed, some black fruit rather than red, some spices notes, a bit gamey, rather old world-like.
In the palate, the wines feels tight, red ruit core, pronounced acidity, great underlying complexity, light and (freshly made) jam, a thin oaky frame, med body and med to long finish. Still too young
Red
2013 Churton Pinot Noir New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough
87 points
Red fruit nose, slightly spicy, mainly from the oak, from the nose it feels a wine to have with food.
Quite easy in the palate, lighter, thin, lacking complexity and body, to drink now or in a couple of years. Its not indifferent, just felt like a kid next to grown-ups in that line-up.
