Introduction

Two heavyweights of the zin world squared off, with one young brash fighter and an agiing, crafty veteran.

Flight 1 (2 notes)

Gorgeous Zinfandel. Popped and poured, this showed no sign of 15.6% alc. Chewy dark fruit drank was seamless and well structured. Need to seek these out. Lengthy finish.

The opposite end of the spectrum from the 05 Turley Dusi drunk alongside. Other than the cork crumbling and having to decant the wine twice, this was a very pleasurable wine that has some years to live. Spicy and brambly raspberry with a great midpalate grip, very full even in its old age. Just a touch of heat on the back end, with a chocolatey finish. I'm seeking out some 05 Lyttons to lay down for 15 years and hoping for the same result!

Closing

In the end, this was a draw. The youthful, brawny Turley kept throwing haymakers at Ridge, but the sage vet dodged them with aplomb and counterattacked with effective jabs. Two completely different competitors - same result. Awesome zins.
