Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2005 Domaine de Chevalier Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
94 points
Well crafted and well-delineated in nose and on the palate. Apricot, honeysuckle, herbs and minerals. On the palate rich and sweet but also citrus fruits and high acidity. Probably the right components for a long life. 94 for now but will get better.
Red
1996 Château Grand-Puy-Lacoste France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
94 points
Two bottles (blind tasting) on the same evening. One showed signs of brett and quite coarse on the palate. The other bottle was singing; complex, powerful, dark fruits, kirsch liquor and well-integrated tannin in the finish. Iron, dust, licorice and fruit-basket in the nose. Lucky we brought the same bottle! GPL 1996 is only just starting to open up I would think based on this bottle.

Red
1996 Château Lynch-Bages France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
95 points
Aristocratic Lynch Bages and classic Pauillac. With pencil shaving, cherries, some sandalwood, tobacco and leather notes in the nose. And "cold" iron, iodine, and tobacco on the palate.

1996 Château Ducru-Beaucaillou France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
95 points
Distinguished and classic claret. Intense nose with sweet ripe dark-red fruits, minerals, licorice and iron notes. Lots of fruits, earth, dust on the robust palate. Great wine with still a long life ahead.
