Introduction

Organized by Sunfish. Ken Wright kind of fell off my radar, and I'm not sure why. 4 out of 6 of these Pinots were quite enjoyable. I'd like to see them with some age. Still, at approximately $50 a bottle, they aren't a fantastic QPR.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2015 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Canary Hill USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills
At a Ken Wright tasting, I found this to be incredibly light, with not much besides fruit. Feminine, tart cherry. Granted this is young. This was my least favorite of the lineup.
Red
2016 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Guadalupe Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. For being so young, this drank nicely and had good complexity. It was concentrated and darker in color. The nose is floral and reminiscent of rose-scented soap. There is nice sappy fruit on the palate, and a touch of meaty funk. I'm not sure if they're worth the price, but Ken Wright wines have a complex flavor profile.
Red
2014 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. There is a rich nose of ash, menthol, cherry, vanilla and cola. The palate is mostly minerality. The fruit is sappy, with just a touch of cloying fruit. There is a flavor of fresh-turned earth. 89-90
Red
2015 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. The nose is rich fruit and smokey. There is good silky fruity that still has some tannin. 89-90
Red
2015 Ken Wright Pinot Noir McCrone Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. There is a lovely perfumed nose of red cherry and pink flowers. It is quite floral. The palate is light. This wine is simpler than most of the other wines at this tasting. It has less structure, yet it remains to be enjoyable. 88-89
Red
2015 Ken Wright Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Yamhill-Carlton
Drank a small pour at a Ken Wright tasting. This is just big and dark. It needs time. It is not completely unenjoyable. It is difficult to assess at this stage.
