Viva la Espana moderna, VOL 2018
Mövenpick retail store, Hamburg
Tasted January 25, 2018 by fc1910 with 233 views
Introduction
All samples are tasted at a spanish wine tasting at the wine shop today.
The Mövenpick company has chanced their portfolio to a more modern international style from spain, mostly far from my personal taste!
Once I have to highly recommend the crew of this shop! Always with very helpful advice!
As always in this Hamburg shop they are serving fresh classic bread and handmade lard to clean the palate in between!
All samples have been opened just before.
Flight 1 (10 notes)
Red
2013 Ego Bodegas Jumilla Goru 38 Barrels
One glass, brief note: an everybodys darling filling, quite fresh with that supporting acidity, cherry tones, quite young still, would give this one at least 3+ years in the bottle, *(*+?), 86+ potential
Red
2012 Biniagual Binissalem-Mallorca Can Catorra Negre
One glass, brief note: A for me until now unknown producer, a blend from Manto Negro, Syrah and Cabernet S, fine spicy aromas in the foreground, mouthfilling and therefore quite balanced, still a lot vanilla from the oak barrels, strong but sweet tannin, recommended, give this one 2- 3+ years more in your cellar, *(**), 88+ potential
Red
2014 Bodegas Peñalba López Ribera del Duero Cyclo
One glass, brief note: stunning tart and demanding red cassis, sour cherry, thus this wine is really refreshing on the palate, ending with a still vibrating acidity, too young, would recommend to wait some 5+ years for the next try, *(**+?), 90+ potential
Red
2014 Bodegas Peñalba López Ribera del Duero Torremilanos Crianza
One glass, brief note: very primary oak aromas, vanilla, roasty, some creamy dark fruit, concentrated modern international style tinto del pais Ribera, *(*- +?), 86+ potential
Red
2014 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Tinto Pesquera Crianza
One glass, brief note: I have to admit, this is my alltime (entry level? not really!) Ribera reference crianza, always reliable, this bottle again delicious young, plums, vanilla compote, sweet ripe tannin, but supported by fresh acid, as always seems to be nearly balanced and harmonic now, but I recommend to wait at least a decade+, *(**+), 90+ potential

Red
2014 Abadia Retuerta Selección Especial Sardon de Duero
One glass, brief note: broad, fullbodied, international style (spanish?) wine, sweet compote, portwine aromas, prunes, not made for me, an everybody´s darling MADE wine, to be fair no rating from me this time!

Red
2012 Hacienda Monasterio Ribera del Duero Reserva
One glass, brief note: again not for me! High voltage (not rock and roll),15% ABV, sweet vanilla, dense structured with a supporting still strong tannin, again some prunes, but overall to MADE for me! Therefore no rating!
Red
2014 Biniagual Manto Negro Binissalem-Mallorca
One glass, brief note: some ripe red and black fruit, well velvety structured, some freshness from the acid, good ripe richness on the midpalate, balanced, deep, ending long and firm, give this one 3- 5+ years to blossom, *(**+?), 91+ potential
Red
2008 Bodegas Alejandro Fernández Ribera del Duero Millenium Reserva Pesquera
One glass, brief note: very strong fragrance of sandalwood, coconut, montecristo cigars and ripe fruit, still very young appearance, lacking harmony at this moment, ending very long with a biting demanding acidity, but very promising, way too young at the moment, a wine for the year 2015++, (****+?), 94+ potential
Red
2015 Bodegas Garmón Tempranillo Garmón Tinto
One glass, brief note: like the tasted vintage 2014 nearly one year ago too much of everything, very international style RdD, sweet ripe tannin, fullbodied, vanilla, indicating no terroir, a fraud crowd pleaser, no way MADE for me, maybe will evolve to a structured wine in (5+) years, but I would not place to much money on that! No rating from me
