White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 160eme France, Champagne
93 points
In a terrific spot and very typical young Krug. So much power and richness. Loads of white fruit with hints of oak creaminess.
Rosé - Sparkling
2014 Jérôme Prévost La Closerie Fac-Simile France, Champagne

Drank side by side with a Krug 160. This is a more elegant and bright Champagne but still brings some excellent power and concentration. I like this now where electric freshness and energy capture your attention.
White
2008 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
92 points
Simply classic. Full nose of green apple, oyster shells and sea breeze. The palate has moderate concentration and a nice roundness to the white fruit. Excellent underlying cut that provides lift in the finish.
Red
1970 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley

Tasted side-by-side with the 71. Nose leads with a balsamic note, but there is still plenty of freshness to the plum-driven fruit. Tannins fully resolved. Classic old school Napa flavors of cedar, dried tobacco leaf and bell pepper.
Red
1971 Beaulieu Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley USA, California, Napa Valley
91 points
Tasted side-by-side with the 70. I preferred the '71 as it delivered a bit more oomph and the tannins had a bit more of an edge. Having said that, both wines had a very similar profile that is classic old school Napa Cab. Loads of cedar, dried tobacco leaf and bell pepper add complexity.
Red
1990 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
93 points
A favorite Jadot bottling that needs loads of time to show it's stuff. This bottle was exceptional. Awesome aromatics of mature red cherries, earth tones with underlying spice/florals. Excellent concentration and textures throughout.

1992 Ridge Monte Bello USA, California, San Francisco Bay, Santa Cruz Mountains

Caught this one in a perfect place to my palate. Epic, concentrated and nuanced nose of fresh plum and currants, with cigar and bell pepper beneath. A kiss of American Oak herbs and vanilla. The palate is super concentrated and powerful with precision and elegance. Tannins are suave but provide a sturdy counterpoint to the fruit.

1996 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Colonnello Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Decanted for 7 hours, then returned to the bottle for another 2 hours before serving. Nose was muddled and perhaps stewy. Palate was a bit more fresh on the back end. But this was disappointing. Perhaps a damaged bottle, or perhaps just not good.
