Flight 1 (7 notes)

White
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
Yellow. Floral aromas with ripe pear. Quite round but good soil/mineral finish, and very good length. Very 2015, unlike the reds, which are not at all.
White
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Morey St. Denis En la Rue de Vergy Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Full yellow. More peach on the nose. Slighter lighter weight. This is very much a soil-driven wine with ripe stone fruit and orange in the background. Quite interesting since one doesn't often taste white wine from this appellation.
Red
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Marsannay Les Longeroies France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Marsannay
Light, clear ruby. Brambly aromas. Light, briary blackberry, but really, this is all about the terroir and tannic finish. Much more lean and mineral than your typical 2015 red.

Red
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Vosne-Romanée Les Champs Perdrix France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Light red color and also a weight this is light and quite elegant. Subtle dark red/black fruit, lots of anise and earth, tart acidity. Again, a cooler style that is attractive. I must say that I find rather slight, but perhaps it will gain in texture and palate presence.
Red
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru La Dominode France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru
Light color. Very penetrating, brambly, black fruit scents. Light with some sap and blueberry fruit. Full of herbs as well. Soil-inflected finish, terrific length. Much better than the Vosne, I thought.

Red
2015 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
Medium center, lighter rim. Lovely, wafting aromas of rose, earth, and muddled red fruit. There is a dark cherry note at its core. Incredibly graceful, elegant wine where I never would have guessed a riper vintage had it been served blind. Full of class, but I have to ask, $600 worth?

Red
2007 Domaine Bruno Clair Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
And then this wine was generously provided for comparison. Deeper ruby throughout than the 2015 version. Medium weight, definitely more substantial than the younger wine. Coffee, black and red fruit on a base of tremendous earth and terrific acidity. Excellent now, and it should soften and continue to improve for at least another 5 years. No wimpy, washed out 2007 this, but in fact, clearly bigger and riper than the wine from 8 years later. Go figure. Thank you again, Mark.

Closing

Although the 2 whites could easily be pegged as products of a "solar" vintage, what really impressed here was how delicate and fresh the reds were compared to so many other obviously ripe examples from this vintage.
