Flight 1 (3 notes)

White - Sparkling
2002 Champagne Fleury Champagne Extra Brut France, Champagne
90 points
Medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. Very oxidative at this point, going beyond just style, but despite that it is still taut with a crispness and focus to the tart citrus and grapefuit and has a good bit of chalk minerality to keep this alive. I found myself enjoying this more and more.
White - Sparkling
2006 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut France, Champagne
94 points
Same bottle as Bellissimo - and thanks for sharing. You can refer to his note or any of my previous notes. Great nose, this was toasty, elegant, precocious and delicious. It was just a bit warm, as were a lot of the wines tonight and that might have a had a bit of impact on its overall vivacity.

White - Sparkling
2002 Louis Roederer Champagne Cristal Brut France, Champagne
97 points
Light gold color. Drank 1 glass over 30 minutes. When you have this after what was a splendid '06 Tait CdC you realize just how great this wine is. Despite it being significantly warmer than ideal, this exploded out of the glass with an amazing burst of toasty goodness, lively orchard fruit and citrus, with a blissful grace and completely composed palate this is so silky and lifted. This is truly special. Side note, the nose did seem to shut down in the glass for a time, but rebounded again. 97(+)pts.

White
2009 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

This was excellent. Crisp, saline, vibrant, bright citrus, sophisticated and balanced.

Mango, passion fruit, lychee, tangy acid and floral overtones; fun energetic and refreshing!

White
2005 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant
flawed
Oxidized, Sherry-like.
White
1990 Domaine Fabien Coche Bâtard-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
96 points
Light-medium gold color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. I couldn't have asked for anything more from this bottle. It was in pristine shape, no signs of oxidation, a perfect cork, and an ample amount of freshness. These bottles were purchased in early 2015 and came direct from the Domaine. One would think they had been recorked at some point prior to their current realease. At any rate, this carried the load as they say, bringing forth a complex mix of bright lemon, pear, honey, white flowers, lemon chiffon, nuts, brine and deft stony minerality on the nose. The palate carries everything forward and lifts it even further with grand cru power, weight, and length. I loved the texture and depth on the palate with its mix of aged comlexity and lively energy. This is everything one could hope and dream for in an aged burg. Happy it turned out as it did.

Red
2015 A. et P. de Villaine Mercurey Les Montots France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Mercurey
91 points
Brilliant translucent medium ruby color. Drank 1 glass over an hour. I totally agree with Chablis28's take on this. A fun forward wine, fresh potted herbs, bright raspberry fruits, soft and satiny texture, medium body, very pretty with sneaky spices on the tail end.
Red
2002 Louis Jadot Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
92 points
Deep maroon red color. This had gotten a quick splash double decant and was recorked with an hour or more slow O at the venue. Drank 1 glass over an hour. There's not many notes on this, but I would say they seem consistent with my current impressions. Dark fruit, black cherry, cassis, really nice wood spices, dried cherry, deep, lots of soil based minerality, medium plus body, with plenty of tannin still. I'm not sure if this gets better or we have a plateau.

Red
1968 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon California Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley
flawed
Saw that bottle and was excitedly hoping for a miracle- twas not to be - ah well. Raisin, madeirized, this might be one of the cloudiest/murkiest wine I've ever seen.
Red
1994 R. López de Heredia Rioja Gran Reserva Viña Tondonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
95 points
Medium dark red color. Drank 1 glass over 45 minutes. Same bottle as Bellissimo and Chablis28. I can't add anything more to what has already been said. You can read my previous notes on this wine as well. It has been a about a year and a half since last having this wine and I think it is even more resolved now with near perfect integration, barely any sign of dill now, flat out lovely. Better yet, I realized I've still got one.

Red
2000 Château Bahans Haut-Brion France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
91 points
Very dark red color. If I remember we got this on a decanter at the restaurant for an hour or so. I like this, it is young, but it's drinking pretty well. Medium plus to full bodied and well layered, there's a good mix of red and black fruits, firm but well rounded tannins, graphite, and oak tones on a medium plus finish.

Red
2004 Château Cheval Blanc France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
93 points
Very dark red color. Some slow-O only. Drank 1 glass over an hour. This has a gorgeous, aromatic nose, perfumed, earthy, ripe cassis and red berries. The palate is classy with Cheval elegance, medium plus body, red and black fruits, very good depth, pencil, earth, oak, firm tannins, long. Wish this would have seen a good decant though.
Red
2004 Château Ausone France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
This was essentially a PNP tonight and served next to the '04 Cheval it should have been a great pairing. The Ausone though is an infant in comparison. A previous bottle showed much better, and I don't recall what that got for air. This is big, with full on tannins and a lot of oak that needs to tone down and integrate. Not really fair to evaluate it tonight. Unlike many of the '04's that are much more approachable right now, this needs to be stashed in the back of the cellar for another 5 years.

Flight 7 (2 notes)

Red
2002 Harlan Estate The Maiden USA, California, Napa Valley
Very dark red/purple color. Followed one glass over an hour. I don't think I was drinking the same bottle here J. Maybe it was just the context of what we'd been driniking prior. My impression was that this has seen its best days. I felt like the black fruits had faded to the point that they could not buoy the alcohol, or tannin for that matter, anymore. The wood seemed more resolved with glass time. No score.
Red
2005 M. Chapoutier Ermitage Le Pavillon France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Very dark red/purple color. Unknown treatment. Followed 1 glass over an hour. Cedarbox, black fruits, aggressively spiced nose. The palate is big - full bodied and concentrated and very young, blackberry liqueur, wood, very spicy, with heat on the back end. Needs a lot of time yet. Score reserved.

White - Sweet/Dessert
1985 Château Raymond-Lafon France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
Very dark gold almost amber color. Drank a small pour over 30 minutes. This was a lot of fun, in good shape and worrked quite well with the chess course - particularly the more creamy textured and fattier cheeses. The has a lighter weight to it, not as untuous or oily. I find a lot of botrytis spice character as opposed to some other notes. This has that spiced orange marmalade feel with dried apricot and a heavily liqueured spiced fruit cake, subltle honey and dried fruits. It is a bit more angular on the palate and the pairing elevates the wine.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2003 Château La Tour Blanche Sauternes France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
92 points
Very good. Consistent with my previous notes on this wine. Has a lot more to give, but I really like where this is at now. 92+ to 93pts.
