Flight 1 (12 notes)

Red
2010 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
92 points
This has a very pretty and quite classic nose. Very floral, bright red cherry somehow already adding earth character. More elegant than spiced, think more like a Chambolle perfume. Quite ripe. Palate is much less interesting than the very nice nose. Palate is youthful and more straightforward than the great nose suggests, but this does have weighty fruit and I can see this aging well. Interestingly this is my preferred wine of the whole program.
Red
2010 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée La Colombiere France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
89 points
This is darker and even a little muddy relative to the very elegant bouquet on the ‘10 Clos de Chateau. More in the way of spice, but less expressive and less concentrated. However, a pleasant steamy floral character comes out. Palate is under ripe and primary. Tart and not convinced the weight is here. Tasted with Louis Michel, wines from the domaine.
Red
2012 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
This is showing in the cough syrup category. High alcohol black cherry and not much else. Tasted with Louis Michel, bottles from the domaine.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Cras France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
90 points
Whereas the ‘12 shows like cough syrup, this has brighter and fresher red berry, but is still unduly dark and intense compared to the Vosne village wines, which are surprisingly showy and accessible. Tasted with Louis Michel, wines from the domaine.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Grandes Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
89 points
A step in the right direction from either the ‘12 or ‘15 NSG Cras with more concentration and bright red cherry, but overall this flight isn’t that nice. Tasted with Louis Michel, bottles from the domaine.
Red
2009 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Brûlées France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
91 points
[Magnum] was hoping this could be really good since I am a huge fan of Brulees and a ‘10 La Romanee last week was quite an impressive surprise. The nose is black cherry, over-oaked, over extracted, and a little roasted. Opens up a little more into a brighter and more showy nose with lots of ripeness and vosne spice. Some stalky florals too. The palate is wound up and intense but there is good red fruit here. I can see all the redeeming material here and would wait on this.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
90 points
This has pretty perfume, nice cola spice, mild stalky florals, and raspberry and red cherry fruit. Palate is straightforward but accessible.
Red
2010 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Les Petits Monts France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
88 points
Whereas the ‘15 Vosne Reignots has some perfume, spice, detail, and infantile pleasure, this is all lacquer right now, black cherry and cranberry.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
90 points
Reductive. Weighty but inexpressive. Cool dark blue fruit. Palate is massive at this point.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
91 points
Stalky florals beginning to show, but otherwise mostly closed and inexpressive. Better than the ‘15 Clos Vougeot but still monolithic.
Red
2015 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru
92 points
Major reduction right now, takes a lot of swirling to get past. Black berry perfume begins to come out in a bigger way along with stemmy florals. You can see how this will soon provide that very accessible and immediate pleasure that the ‘10 delivered last week, but this is just too young for me to tell much about right now.

2006 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair La Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, La Romanée Grand Cru
89 points
I far preferred the '15 La Romanee, which is in an infant baby fat stage, to this comparatively dry and mildly stewed showing. Inexpressive nose with dried cranberry and missing the detail of many of the lesser wines tonight. The '10 last week was was also far more accessible and pleasurable than this. This was however the last wine of a fairly lengthy program, but I still don't really see this one. With Louis Michel, bottles from the domaine.
