A few Spanish wines at Eric's

Introduction

There were a couple other wines that I don't remember, but I was pleasantly surprised with the wines. I feared lots of oak, and massive fruit, but these wines had none of that. I need to explore more, I think.

Flight 1 (5 notes)

White
2016 Bodega Katxina Getariako Txakolina Spain, País Vasco, Getariako Txakolina
Similar to previous bottles. Very refreshing with high acid and a tiny bit of trapped gas. I should pick up a few more to have around this summer.
White
2003 R. López de Heredia Rioja Blanco Viña Gravonia Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
These wines are interesting, but not something I want to drink often. Oxidized, sherry like flavors. Very dry. This wine demands food, and drank best last night with fatty courses, cheese, and a simple salad with a citrus and olive oil dressing.

Red
2006 R. López de Heredia Rioja Crianza Viña Cubillo Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alta, Rioja
This was the lightest bodied wine tonight. Pretty nose. Elegant, tart red cherries. Nice, but could have used just a little more concentration. I will look to try more from this producer.
Red
2006 Artadi Viñas de Gain Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
I enjoyed this wine. Just a little more fruit than the Lopez Heredia and it has also has nice acidity. Somewhat elegant, with earthy accents. Possibly a hint of Brett here, I think. My favorite of the night though.
Red
2003 Capafons-Ossó Priorat Masos d'en Cubells Spain, Catalunya, Priorat
About five years since the last bottle and it hasn't changed much. Still showing young. I wish I had a few more to drink over the next 10-15 years.
