Flight 1 - Welcome wines (2 notes)

Some starters before the tasting.

2018 Bodega Garzón Pinot Noir Rosé Uruguay, Maldonado
74 points
2014 Greenock Creek Grenache Cornerstone Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
87 points
High acidity, gravelly tannins, shallow mid palate, very different grenache

Flight 2 - White and bubbly (5 notes)

1990 J.B. Becker Martinsthaler Rödchen Riesling Spätlese trocken Germany, Rheingau
75 points
Lots of stuff happening on the nose, honey, glue, green apple. Unfortunately the palate is only about the high acidity, no fruit to back it up, flat, short.
White - Off-dry
1998 Hessische Staatsweingüter Kloster Eberbach Rüdesheimer Berg Schloßberg Riesling Spätlese Germany, Rheingau
90 points
Wallpaper glue, coal, wet rock after a summer rain, petroleum, a bit funky that goes away with some air. Great balanced acidity to the sweetness, lots of apricots.
White - Sparkling
2002 Paul Bara Champagne Grand Cru Comtesse Marie de France Bouzy France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
91 points
Fresh aroma, massive, red apples, bread, some maturity. On the palate more youthful, a bit short and not so intense acidity. In a perfect stage right now.
White - Sparkling
2002 Pol Roger Champagne Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill France, Champagne
88 points
This is a very good wine but not my preferred style. Mature, massive aroma, brioche, oak, nutty, feels like the dosage is a bit high (guess it's not), medium acidity, tart

White - Off-dry
1990 Joh. Jos. Prüm Wehlener Sonnenuhr Riesling Auslese Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
86 points
Retro 70's style, hoy flowers, bee wax, smurf figures (soft plastic), apricot. Quite light mouth feel, minimal acidity.

Flight 3 - Red (5 notes)

2006 Capezzana Carmignano Villa di Capezzana Italy, Tuscany, Carmignano
86 points
Funky, cherries, damp vegetation, asphalt, acidity m+, tannins m+, good length, some heat. Lacks the fruit to feel complete.

2010 Capanna Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
Lactic acid, green, way too young to be drunk now, lots of air helps but will surely benefit from cellaring. High acidity, massive tannins. Served blind I ended up with a young Tannat from Madiran.

2006 Saltram Shiraz No.1 Australia, South Australia, Barossa
92 points
Generous fruity, somewhat bombastic nose, pencil, licorice, vanilla, silky texture, smooth tannins, marvelous balance. Simply a beautiful Barossa that I would love to try again.

1990 Fattoria La Gerla Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
88 points
Sweet fruity nose, stable, pepper, truffles, mushroom. Matured palate. A very good wine but a bit to mature for my taste.
2014 Bodegas Orben Rioja Malpuesto Spain, La Rioja, La Rioja Alavesa, Rioja
92 points
This is a marvelous wine. Pencil, caramel, dark berries, coffee, plum. Very smooth structure, intense ending with pepper, tannins m+, some bitterness from oak that adds another dimension.

Flight 4 - Fortified (1 note)

Red - Fortified
1938 Château Villargeil Rivesaltes France, Languedoc Roussillon, Roussillon, Rivesaltes
91 points
What an amazing wine. So alive despite its age. No formal notes, I just sat back and enjoyed it with some cheese and chocolate cake.
