Flight 1 (1 note)

White
2014 Château Haut Lagrange Blanc France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
88 points
Fresh, zingy, slightly grassy SB nose. More rounded and smoother on the palate, mid weight. Peach and melon. Clean finish. Very decent. ***

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Château Sociando-Mallet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
90 points
Lovely nose. Quite deep and plush initially, with a tobacco element. Reasonably broad and relatively short. Good though becomes more rustic with air. ***1/2
Red
1989 Château Cantemerle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
93 points
Lighter-fruited, redder nose. Quite bright. Nicely red fruited. Quite silky. Puts on a little weight and sweetness with air. Lovely. ****

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Domaine de Chevalier France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
93 points
Proper Graves nose. Fresh, nicely red fruited. Similar style on palate to the Cantemerle but a little more acidity. Mellow and lovely, but not the richness or depth that 89 DDC can have. ****
Red
1989 Château Haut-Bailly France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan
flawed
Corked.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Château Palmer France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux
95 points
Lovely plush nose. Rich and scented. A lovely nose of elegance and richness. Palate similar, understated richness with a deep core of sweet fruit clothed in elegance. Really lovely. *****
Red
1989 Château Branaire (Duluc-Ducru) France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Lovely, red fruited and cedar cigar box St J nose. Very smooth and silky. Lovely red fruit, cigar box and a touch of sandlewood too. Long and harmonious. Very attractive without quite the depth and extra plushness of Palmer. Better than a bottle in 2011. ****

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
1989 Château Léoville Poyferré France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
91 points
Dusty red fruit on the nose. A dry undercurrent superficial lushness but it fades quickly to be less giving. The fruit here is competing with the dry tannins, but for how much longer? The nose is better than the palate. It’s still a very good wine, but found slightly wanting not he company. ****
Red
1989 Château Léoville Barton France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
flawed
Corked.
Red
1989 Château Léoville Las Cases France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
93 points
Relatively subdued. Some red fruit. Quite reticent. With air, a nicely red fruited core with some tannin and acidity. This bottle needs another decade, but it’s all there. **(**)

Flight 6 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
94 points
Blackcurrant and cedar. Lovely elegant Pauillac nose. Fine. Elegant, lovely line. Harmonious. Quite complete, finely chiselled, statuesque quality. Marble. ****1/2

1989 Château Pichon-Longueville Baron France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
93 points
Very mute on the nose. Darker fruited. Richer. A touch of coffee. Not quite as lush or exciting as it can be. Plenty of interest but not the best bottle of this. ****
