2016 Domaine Laporte Sancerre Le Rochoy France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
87 points
Double blind. Tropical fruit with a lime/citrus overtone. Lime and grapefruit palate, quite grassy too. Higher acidity. Turns more grassy as it opens- bordering on jalapeno. Guessed S. African sauv blanc.

Flight 2 - Flight I (5 notes)

Red
2016 Inman Family Pinot Noir USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
89 points
Blind. Notes of cherry, earth and clove. Elegant. Flavors of cherry, spice, and dark pinot fruit, a bit bigger than the others in the lineup. Opens nicely; warm spices and cherry fruit qualities. Nice finish. By the end of the flight it became clear to me that this was my RRV pinot. 89+ pts.
Red
2016 The Four Graces Pinot Noir Willamette Valley USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
90 points
Blind. Dark ruby color with notes of black cherry, earth and nutmeg. Dark pinot fruit on the palate with a nice bit of spice carrying through the finish. Develops an intriguing cherry compote quality that I enjoyed. Nice balance-fruit/acid. Guessed OR pinot.
Red
2009 Domaine Latour-Giraud Volnay 1er Cru Clos des Chênes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
91 points
Double blind. Lighter color than the rest of the flight. Aromas of red cherry, herbs and spice, sous bois and roasted game. Soft tannins. Cherry, forest floor/dried mushroom, mineral and red berry fruit flavors. Nice balance. Mineral-tinged finish. Easy to pick out as a Burgundy. Excellent. 91-92 pts.
Red
2004 Shea Wine Cellars Pinot Noir East Hill Shea Vineyard USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley
91 points
Double blind. Aromas of cherry, earth and forest floor with a nice meaty old world element. Medium-bodied with flavors of red pinot fruit, cherry and game. Has a slight rustic edge. Gets even better as it sits- cherry and currants. Adds a nice spice element on the palate. Guessed OR pinot. 91-92 pts.
Red
2012 Loring Wine Company Pinot Noir Garys' Vineyard USA, California, Central Coast, Santa Lucia Highlands
88 points
Double blind. Aromas of cherry and spice follow through on the palate. On the simple side compared to others in the flight. Nice fruit and perfume. A bit bigger than the previous wines; stands out as a little riper as well. Lots of warm spice/holiday spice on the palate. Medium(-) finish. 88+ pts.

Flight 3 - Flight II (4 notes)

Red
2012 Devona Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard USA, Oregon
88 points
Double blind. Cherry, raspberry and currant notes. Nice fruit and spice on the palate. A bit bigger style; riper, more raspberry than cherry. Obviously pinot, but from CA I think. 88+ pts.
Red
2015 Domaine de la Janasse Côtes du Rhône Villages Terre d'Argile France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages
89 points
Double blind. Cherry, cherry compote, red plum and spice notes. NIce finish. Good weight across the palate. Lots of ripe red fruit in the bouquet and on the palate.
Red
2015 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon One Point Five USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
92 points
Blind, though in this flight there was absolutely no doubt that this was my other bottle. Decanted for a couple of hours prior to the tasting. Opaque inky purple color. Aromas of violet, cassis, vanilla and dark berry fruit. Firm, sweet fine-grained tannins with flavors of plum and black fruit, vanilla and incense. Long finish. Clearly young, but I like what's here. Lots of upside but hold until 2025+. 92+ pts.
Red
2009 Sleight of Hand Syrah The Funkadelic USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Walla Walla Valley
90 points
Double blind. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruit and pepper with a nice underlying earthy funk. Plum and riper dark fruit on the palate with a lengthy finish. Medium tannins. Nice fruit. Develops a subtle meaty note.

Flight 4 - Wine "Z" (1 note)

Red
2013 Jonata Winery Todos USA, California, Central Coast, Ballard Canyon
92 points
Double blind. An initial grapefruit note blows off leaving pepper, plum, incense and black fruit notes. Full-bodied, but nicely balanced, with flavors of black and blue fruit, pepper, roasted game and candied black cherry. Nice underlying acidity. Incense, meat and pepper come on strong; I really like this. Guessed syrah. 92-93 pts.
