Flight 1 (4 notes)

White
2017 Telmo Rodríguez Rueda Basa Blanco Spain, Castilla y León, Rueda

At first the nose is shy showing just bitter almond notes. Then, alongside that you get some tropical notes with tea/chamomile.
In the palate, the wine shows freshness but also bitterness (that might contribute to the freshness in a way), tropical fruit notes, med+ acidity, citrus, with med to long finish filled with lemon leaves, herbs, green tea and chamomile.
Its a bit tricky to have on its own, probably better with food
White
2016 Ossian Quintaluna Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
88 points
Very low intensity, barely getting anything, herb and citrus notes.
The palate shows higher intensity, powerful acidity, citrus, richer, med to long finish.
Feels a bit rough to have by the glass but could work in a number of ways with food.
White
2015 Ossian Verdling Trocken Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
91 points
Fantastically interesting by the story behind it.
Typical Verdelho in the nose, green, herbs, citrus, bitter, it feels tight and austere with a rather "cold" nuance in it!
The palate is clearly German, very strict, squared, citrusy with green freshness, high acidity and intensity, still qutie young.
Interesting to have by the glass .
Oustanding
ps After some time in the glass, the wine shows sweeter notes, pastry, preserved quince and syrup.
White
2015 Ossian Vinas Viejas Blanco Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
90 points
The oak is very upfront showing buttery, yeasty and cinnamon notes. The fruit needs time to shows itself.
In the palate, the oak is again upfront, buttery, medium to high acidity, hte fruit shows more here, long finish.
Needs time in the glass, its a rich, dense, big bodied white. Could work with people into heavier wines

Flight 2 (8 notes)

Red
2016 Telmo Rodríguez Al Muvedre Spain, Valencia, Alicante
86 points
Nice bright color.
Easygoing and fruity nose with a bit of alcohol heat. The wine shows chery, berry, slightly spicy, cinnamon and liquorice.
In the palate, the wine is again easy, balancing acidity, fruity and a bit spicy, light body. Could work on its own or with light food
Red
2015 Telmo Rodríguez Mencía Valdeorras Gaba do Xil Spain, Galicia, Valdeorras
87 points
Nich intensity, showing bright red fruit, fresh sour cherry, berry, some herbs, chocolate, floral too, black tea and cloves.
In the palate, the wine follows the same pattern with ripe small red fruits, black tea, spicy, feels drier than the nose, tannins with a few rough edges.
Red
2016 Telmo Rodríguez Toro Dehesa Gago Spain, Castilla y León, Toro
87 points
Bright red color.
The nose is lively, ripe small black fruit, some spicy notes, sweet biscuit notes.
In the palate the wine tastes bright and fresh, with nice acidity, med body, some heat and sweetness from the alcohol, well balanced, showing some tannins too and med finish.
I think it would work better with food
Red
2017 Bodegas Lanzaga (Telmo Rodriguez) Rioja LZ Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
88 points
The nose shows nice ripe and fresh red and black fruit with some floral notes on the side.
In the palate, the wine is rich and easy, ripe black fruit, nice tannins and acidity, well balanced with decent length.
Would be nice to have on its own, bit pricey though
Red
2016 Bodegas Lanzaga (Telmo Rodriguez) Rioja Corriente Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
89 points
Looks and smells more dense than the LZ tried before.
The nose shows ripe fresh red fruit, to oak contributes the sweet spices, heat from the alcohol, dried leaves, cinnamon and clove.
The wine shows rich body, ripe black berry, nice mouthfeel with big but not aggressive tannins, alcohol heat again, med+ body with long finish.
Equally good to have on its own or with food.
Red
2012 Telmo Rodríguez Rioja Lanzaga Spain, La Rioja, Rioja
91 points
Bold color and nose profile, showing rich ripe black fruit, sweet spices, cinnamon, nutmeg, ink, attractive.
The palate shows the same pattern, big but elegant, very ripe black cherry, almost sweet, beautiful tannins, impressive, rich, full body wtih long finish.
Outstanding
Red
2013 Telmo Rodríguez Ribera del Duero M2 de Matallana Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
90 points
Very impressive and attractive in the nose, showing freshness and filled with ripe black fruit, sweet spices and chocolate.
In the palate, the fruit is again ripe, big and round, beautiful tannins, nice acidity, big, bold flavors but not aggressive, long finish.
Only objection, feels too "technically correct" wine, as if its missing character.
Red
2011 Telmo Rodríguez Pegaso Granito Sierra de Gredos Spain, Castilla y León, Cebreros
90 points
Delicate in the nose, beautiful, almost intellectual character, not that "easy and common", geeky, clear red fruit, some spicy and oaky notes, lean.
In the palate, the wine is again delicate, clear red ripe fruit, med acidity, soft tannins, med body and finish.
A wine for the terroir-istas
