White
2003 Weingut Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner Wachtberg Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal
90 points
Tasted blind. Medium intense colour shows a touch of evolution; low acidity, pineapple, nutty, honeyed richness, rounded, yellow apple, low acidity, a bit tired on the finish. Excellent for vintage and age.
White
2004 Weingut Stadt Krems Riesling Kögl Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal
90 points
Tasted blind. Quite an evolved colour with a golden sheen; deep and honeyed nose, confit fruits on the nose; full and warm palate with a hint of alcoholic heat, gout de petrol, firm acidity, bitters, falls away quickly.
White
2016 Weingut Stadt Krems Grüner Veltliner 1ÖTW Reserve Wachtberg Austria, Niederösterreich, Kremstal
91 points
Tasted blind. Very light colour, pale white gold; light and floral nose, fresh; crisp but juicy palate, elegant and mineral, green apple, playful fruit, good persistence. Needs time.
White
2007 Weingut Höllmüller Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Pichlpoint Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
92 points
Tasted blind. Youthful but relatively full yellow colour; ripe fruit and new oak on the nose, good depth; quite a broad palate, has weight and concentration but also good acidity, firm bitters from well-integrated oak; good fruit on the finish. Very lively for age, and the démasqué was a great surprise.
White
2009 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Vinothekfüllung Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
91 points
Tasted blind. Medium yellow colour with a touch of evolution; bright acidity covered in flesh, relatively light, honey, pineapple, papaya, with a touch of yellow apple; peach, white pepper, tangerine, lime, rounded style, medium length. Does not really speak to me.
White
2016 Weingut Knoll Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Ried Loibenberg Loibner Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
91 points
Tasted blind. Intense but youthful green-tinged white golden colour; expressive, youthful nose, lots of malic acidity, mouthwatering, green apple; precise, tingling acidity on the palate, marries charm and intensity, playful peachy fruit, energetic; good length. Delightful but not very complex.
White
2016 Prager Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Wachstum Bodenstein Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
93 points
Tasted blind. Intense but youthful green-tinged white golden colour; both more closed and riper nose than the previous wine; quite a lot of power on the palate, but the concentration is reined in by firm acidity, full flavours, ripe fruit but mineral and precise, slightly earthy and meaty, hint of pepper; very good length. Needs time.
White
2016 Prager Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Zwerithaler Kammergut Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
Needs a lot of time.
White
2006 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd 'M' Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
92 points
Tasted blind. Medium yellow colour, green reflections; deep and brooding nose, vinous, clearly a warm year, complex and complete, hint of earth; rich and powerful palate, very ripe fruit and a touch of alcohol, but the acidity is there; lots of nuance on the finish, very good length. A powerhouse but not without elegance.
White
2012 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Loibenberg Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
93 points
Tasted blind. Light to medium yellow colour, green tinge. Decanted. More mineral and energetic in style than the previous wine, not as ripe, but the weight and concentration on the palate are impressive all the same, tangerine, pineapple, peppery and spicy, full bodied, precise finish, good length.
White
2012 Franz Hirtzberger Grüner Veltliner Smaragd Honivogl Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau
94 points
Tasted blind. Full yellow colour with a hint of gold; deep and mature nose, white pepper, freshness; richly fruited, concentrated and big but also floral and playful, lovely balance and tension, relatively precise finish, very good length.

2001 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
91 points
Tasted blind. Mature but lively appearance; mature nose, vinous, warm and glowing, attractive; fresh and structured palate, some juicy fruit, spices and earth; good resonance and length. Good rather than great.

2010 Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Bolgheri Superiore Ornellaia Italy, Tuscany, Bolgheri, Bolgheri Superiore
93 points
Tasted blind. Mature but lively appearance, full colour; more modern and glossy style than the previous two wines, ripe style but more about freshness than about concentration, rounded and earthy, slightly rustic, still a slightly rough edge to the tannins, good length. Very good potential. Expensive for what it is.
