2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne Legacy Edition Label France, Champagne
95 points
A spectacular young Dom. All the makings of an all-timer -- powerful and rich fruit, concentration, layering and depth, lively bead, fresh acidity. A vintage to load up on.

1995 Domaine G. Roumier / Christophe Roumier Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
flawed
Most thought this was totally oxidized. I found it fully mature and not particularly pleasurable, but short of fully oxidized. The fruit was very mature but there was still some acidity providing lift. It did decline quickly and therefore the debate is moot.
White
1980 Coche-Dury Meursault France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
flawed
Corked, but definitely had energy and concentration. Too bad.
White
2010 Emmanuel Houillon (Maison Pierre Overnoy) Chardonnay Arbois Pupillin France, Jura, Arbois Pupillin
90 points
Served double blind. Dark color with a clear natural, oxidative style. I immediately went to the Jura. Good freshness and acidity. This was pleasurable and interesting, but not my cup of tea.
Red
2008 Lorenzo Accomasso Barolo Riserva Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
A relatively dirty and VA-inflicted bottle, unfortunately. Good concentration and fleshiness to the fruit. But off and not enjoyable.

1996 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
99 points
Basically a pop n' pour. This is a near perfect bottle of Barolo. Still very young, but otherwise it has everything you want in Barolo and more. Stunning aromatics of rich red fruit and florals, with emerging saddle, licorice and earth tones. The palate is densely concentrated yet lively and ethereal. So long. A killer wine.
Red
1985 Marcel Juge Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
flawed
Hot damn, another corked bottle.
Red
1994 Noël Verset Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas

En magnum, and what a treat. I loved the soaring, savory, meat aromatics. The palate has excellent concentration with soft, velvety contours. Still quite young and fresh. A wow wine.

2000 Marcel Juge Cornas Cuvée C France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
92 points
Still quite young. I found this a bit brooding and non-delineated, particularly in comparison to the '00 Chave and '00 Verset. Good concentration and for sure, the N Rhone olive, smoked meat elements are there, just not as bright and precise as some of the other wines tonight.
White
2007 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
97 points
In an 07/08 pair and this was so much better. Gorgeous aromatics of rich orchard and stone fruit, citrus zest, minerals, and spice. The palate is dense with lively acids. A long, kaleidoscopic adventure of a wine.

2008 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
92 points
In an 07/08 pair. A real step down from the enchanting 2007. There was an over ripe botrytis aspect to the nose that really dulled and distracted the aromatics. Good but not special, as you'd hope/expect.

N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 163eme France, Champagne
93 points
Intermezzo of Krug. A consistent and excellent Grande Cuvee. Terrific richness and density. Toasty orchard fruits with a lively bead and fresh driving acids. Long, precise finish.

Last of my 3-pack purchased on the shelf for $29 back in 2006. This was chunkier and richer than the 1994 tasted earlier in the line-up, but it still had the same savory, gamey signature. So complex. I liked them both about the same - this was a bit more burly and the 94 more suave. But that's really a difference on the edges.

2000 Domaine Jean-Louis Chave Hermitage France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
96 points
A gorgeous Chave that was fun to drink alongside the 2000 Verset Cornas. This had less of the overt N. Rhone game and olive and more feminine, elegant contours. Rich and powerful but with a refinement and lift that is unique from the Cornas wines.

1967 Château d'Yquem France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes
99 points
What an amazing experience -- 50+ year-old d'Yquem from a quality vintage. Full, lifted and layered aromatics. Rich but so lively and ethereal on the palate. Mature fruit that is full of orange and honey notes. Powerful yet light as a feather. Long and intense. Wow.
