Flight 1 (13 notes)

White
2017 Meyer-Fonné Muscat Katzenthal France, Alsace
86 points
The varietal aromatics are slightly subdued for a Muscat, although they are there. In the mouth the first perception is the weight and texture of the tannins, this is a oily/waxy wine, not overpowering but definitely present. This needs savory food show well.
White
2017 Meyer-Fonné Riesling Reserve France, Alsace
89 points
Excellent dry Riesling, full bodied and ripe, would lovely with Thai or Indian food. The character is quite vivid but not overly intense, this is a chorus wine with food not a soloist.
White
2017 Meyer-Fonné Pinot Gris Reserve France, Alsace
83 points
Not a bad white wine but rather vague on character, mildly off dry. Decent neutral dry white. Unfortunately it it a bit pricy at $29 for a toss off white.
White
2016 Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer France, Alsace
87 points
Mild GW aromatics, more toward the white spicy gumdrop flavor than anything fruity. Lovely texture, very slight sweetness, needs a dish that is sweet savory to pair. $31 so a bit pricy for what it is.
White
2016 Domaine Henri Perrusset Mâcon-Villages Macon Farges Selection Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Villages
89 points
A modest but lovely white Burgundy. A real value at $18. The nose is citrus with a hint of wood spice, the acid balance is just tart enough, the tannins are developed, and it finished with a bit of oak spice. Real value.
Red
2017 Domaine Dupeuble Pere et Fils Beaujolais Kermit Lynch Selections Label France, Burgundy, Beaujolais
88 points
I already have a case of this but it came up in this tasting flight. It is lovely and a great food wine.
Red
2017 Guy Breton Morgon Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Morgon
75 points
Totally uninteresting, light color, slightly buttery minty, merde. Looking at the only other tasting note and score, this might be a bad bottle but I don't think so, anyway am moving on to others that are good.
Red
2016 Citra Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Ferzo Italy, Abruzzi, Montepulciano d'Abruzzo
87 points
Deep full color with an intense ripe fruit nose. The tannin is gripping in the mouth and dominates but in positive manner. Good acid balance and nice exit. This is a big robust wine.
Red
2017 Alessandro e Gian Natale Fantino Langhe Rosso dei Dardi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
88 points
A Nebbiolo blend that has affordable quality and character. $17 Nice character that speaks of the variety, good acid and body, lovely finish.

Red
2014 Podere Campriano Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
80 points
Neutral dry red, very light but drinkable, there are far, far better values at half the price point of $30.
Red
2016 Agrivinicola di Portelli Salvatore Vittoria Calabrese Italy, Sicily, Vittoria DOC
86 points
Warm region red, ripe, spicy, lots of tannin structure, good finish. Overall a robust wine without finesse.
Red
2016 Domaine Gallety Côtes du Vivarais France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Vivarais
81 points
Inoffensive neutral dry red with mild structure all for $26. Pass
Red
2015 Domaine de la Tour du Bon Bandol France, Provence, Bandol
86 points
Not the typical rustic wine, more mint and fruit. Very chewy in the mouth, good acid balance and the flavors are intriguing but at $36 not intriguing enough.
