N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Premier Cru Les Vignes de Vrigny
91 points
Pale, golden yellow color. Clean, medium intense nose, deep and mineral driven with some salt and classic brioche. Dry, fine mousseux, very elegant, good pressure and tension, good length. 91
White - Sparkling
N.V. Egly-Ouriet Champagne Grand Cru Tradition Brut
flawed
Unfortunately slightly corked. Otherwise a very good Champagne and a step up from the Premier Cru we drunk side-by-side.

White - Sparkling
1996 Perrier-Jouët Champagne Belle Epoque
92 points
Deep golden color. Clean, medium intense nose with lots of Sherry and autolytic flavors. Not my particular cup of tea though. On the palate bone dry. Some oak, sherry and oxidized notes. Lots of power and depth, very good length. This Champagne could go well with a steak! Drinking without food it is not my personal favorite, though I must admit it is a very good Champagne. 92-93

1996 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon
95 points
Medium golden color, much lighter than the 1996 Belle Epoque. Clean nose, at first a bit muted, needs time, air and I guess a certain temperature to fully open up. Very fresh and young.
Dry, finest mousseux of all Champagne we had this night. Lots of chalky mineral notes, racy acidity. Very elegant and fine, but also with lots of grip and pressure. Long and lingering finish. Still very young with lots of potential. Wonderful experience! 94-95++

Red
1990 Henri Magnien Ruchottes-Chambertin
91 points
Unfiltered, fine sediment, garnet-tawny color. At first some VA (?) in the nose that vanished with time. Some fine spices and cherries.
Interesting flight in comparison with the powerful Pommard. At first, I thought, that the Rouchottes has not the slightest chance, but I was wrong. Very fine and elegant, with lots of raspberry and strawberries, soft and round, medium+, fine and perfect integrated tannin. Juicy, with a good grip and good length. Seams to me at its peak, but no hurry to drink. 90-91

1990 Comte Armand Pommard 1er Cru Clos des Epeneaux

Clean, deep ruby color, very youthful. Very open nose, lots of cherries, iron, fine spices and herbs. Really beautiful and powerful.
On the palate medium+ acidity, medium+, fine tannin. Lots of red fruit, some menthol, herbs, dark cacao, forest soil. Very powerful, concentrated and deep. Maybe a bit edgy or rustic and a bit hot at the long finis. Still very young and not close to its full peak, but drinks nicely now. I understand, why Parker called it a “monster”… 90-91

1991 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche
93 points
Medium garnet color, some fine sediment. Clean, quite expressive and deep nose with tobacco and spices, truffle and rose petals.
On the palate very bold, but elegant. Lots of darker berries, spices, some tobacco and herbs. Beautiful core of mineral notes and oak as a guiding structure. Wonderful creamy texture, very long. Has potential for further ageing. A wonderful gift from our generous host! 92-93

2002 Bernhard Huber Spätburgunder Trocken Reserve
92 points
From Magnum, perfect fill level. Clear, light ruby-garnet color. Clean, medium intense, juicy and elegant nose with some red fruit and spices. Certainly German, but elegant and fresh.
On the palate medium+ acidity and medium+, fine tannin, both perfectly integrated. Ripe, juicy red fruit and the oak is well integrated, only giving a good structure and texture. Lots of pressure, long, fine and lingering finish. Stilly young with potential of further ageing. Much better than the Swiss Pinots we had this evening :) 92+

2009 Maison Leroy Vosne-Romanée
90 points
Clear, medium ruby-garnet color. Clean, medium intense nose with some brett, herbs and oak. Quite deep.
Dry, lots of oak, sweet, ripe fruit, herbs and spices. A bit massive on the palate with some pressure and grip, but with a surprisingly short and immediate finish. 13%abv and partially a bit hot. 90-91. Heavily overpriced and overcharged though.

89 points
Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, a bit one-dimensional nose with some anise. On the palate a bit more powerful than the Leroy, but also very rustic and hot. Seems quite young and in need of some aire/time. 89-90+

Clear, ruby garnet color. Clean, medium intense, very round and soft nose with lots of floral notes. On the palate also very charming, round and soft with nice red fruit and a lovely mineral core. Medium+, velvet tannin. Well balanced and with a good length. At its peak. 90-91

2013 Gantenbein Pinot Noir
90 points
Preliminary note: I am not a Gantenbein Pinot fan.
Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense, youthful and deep nose with lots of oak, caramel and some animal notes.
Dry, medium+ acidity, high, not yet well integrated tannin. Some cherries, other berries, lots of oak, animal notes, a bit rustic. Way too young. Compared to the other Burgundies I had this night, I can’t understand the high ratings. And even in comparison with the Donatsch and Huber we had, this wine lost. Certainly, a good Pinot, but IMHO heavily overpriced. Will it improve? Certainly, but I doubt it will be great. 89-90+

2013 Donatsch Pinot Noir Unique
91 points
Clear, deep ruby color. Clean, medium intense nose with fine red fruit. On the palate very juicy, oak is well integrated, though not as good as in the other Burgundies we had this night. Not as rustic as the Gantenbein. Still very young and I guess it needs 5+ years to fully blossom. 91-92+
