Booth One - Chicago IL
Tasted January 26, 2019 by Burgundy Al with 236 views
Flight 1 - Corton-Charlemagne Vertical (4 notes)
White
1989 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
90 points
In Jadot CC vertical. From the same case as a great bottle from a few weeks ago (and a few others from before), this bottle came across as more earthy and slightly dirty vs the others. Still, good density but less precise.

2000 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
93 points
In Jadot CC vertical. Enticing aromas with ripe orchard fruit and savory spice. Very good depth and an unfolding finish. Best bottle I've ever had of this wine, which excites me because it was also the 1st from a 6-pack I just cracked open.
White
2003 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot
89 points
In Jadot CC vertical. Very ripe and very mature aromas, but more enjoyable flavors with so much massive Grand Cru concentration and power. Seemed to slightly freshen up after 15-20 minutes in glass, but this never really delivered what I hoped/ expected.

flawed
In Jadot CC vertical. Corked.
Flight 2 - Great 1997 Horizontal (4 notes)
Red
1997 Louis Jadot Chapelle-Chambertin
93 points
Served blind in 1997 flight. Massive black fruit with intense concentration. Some diners thought this the WOTF, but I found it more reliant on its power, less on its complexity. Still, clearly an exciting wine for now and the future.
Red
1997 Louis Jadot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Domaine Louis Jadot
94 points
Served blind in Jadot 1997 flight. Incredibly elegant and wonderfully styled with charming textures. Powerful, yet seemingly weightless. So enjoyable now with upside.
Red
1997 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Amoureuses
95 points
Served blind in Jadot 1997 flight. Great combination of black and red cherry with an intense richness and an unfolding, elegant finish. So good now, with even further upside from here. My WOTN.
Flight 3 - Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Vertical (5 notes)
Red
1999 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot
Opened a few hours before serving, this was interesting and powerful but never fully forthcoming tonight. At times it hinted at its potential, but then seemed to retract once again. I find many 1999s still requiring more cellar time, and this bottle was a perfect example. Probably 89 points tonight, but 90-91 points for its potential.
Red
2003 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot
92 points
Clearly very ripe, yet with so much concentration and dry extract that this came across as bright and compelling. My favorite of the flight.

2002 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot
92 points
Mostly black cherry, some plum with good richness and roasted meat hints. Good+ weight and length. Very good balance. Almost as good as the 2003 in the flight.
Red
1978 Domaine Clair-Daü Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques
flawed
Poor ullage for its age ~ 8 cm, with some seepage a few years ago and serious cork integrity issues. Tasted like an ok glass of madeira.
Flight 4 - Sweet Burgundy to Finish (1 note)
White - Sweet/Dessert
2000 Domaine de la Bongran (Thevenet) Mâcon-Villages Cuvée Botrytis
92 points
Botrytis intensive with very good density and complexity. Lots to enjoy here, with plenty of ability to drink well for decades going forward. From 375 ml bottle.
