Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2011 Bodegas Fusion Ribera del Duero Lara O Pro Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
89 points
Slightly volatile nose. Dark red fruit. Mulberry and raspberry. Good acidity. Slightly grainy tannins. Again, needs more time, or food. ***
Red
2015 Bodegas Fusion Ribera del Duero Lara O Crianza Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
87 points
Dark fruited. Blackcurrant with a little raspberry. Quite chewy. ***
Red
2015 Territorio Luthier Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León Hispania Spain, Castilla y León, Vino de la Tierra de Castilla y León
90 points
Dark in colour, deeper than the crianza, but also finer. Needs time. An obvious fine tannin to the finish, but harmonious. ***1/2
Red
2012 Territorio Luthier Ribera del Duero Luthier Gran Reserva Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
91 points
Dense but harmonious. Lots of finely grippy tannin offsetting a dense loganberry fruit. Powerful but together. **(**)

Closing

Lots of scope for confusion here — the earlier wines were released under the auspices of Bodegas Fusion, but there's now a rebranding underway and in future the moniker will be under the Territorio Luthier name. The Lara O, named for the sister of one of the partners, remains as the Crianza level wine but loses the somewhat incongruous 'Pro(fessional)' subtitle. Hispania made outside DO rules, and thus a Vina de Terra, is essentially a Reserva in treatment. The new labels (not yet in use) step back to a more traditional, elegant style and carry a clear brand identity across the wines. The Gran Reserva from Territorio Luthier carries the 'Luthier' name alongside the Gran Reserva designation.
