Super Syrah Night

Casa Tomek

Tasted March 14, 2019 by bubbachumps with 230 views

Introduction

5 Bulotas ham sandwiches on baguette with black truffle butter. Assorted cheeses, kalamata olives, hummus and Prosciutto. We kicked it off in typical fashion with a white wine and then moved on to the themed wines. As per usual, wines served double blind.

Flight 1 (1 note)

Customary White to kick off the evening

Incredibly well balanced chard that showed in between the california and burgundian styles. Crisp nose with notes of lemon, honey, faint tangerine and a touch of sea salts. Acid, fruit and body working in harmony and gliding across the palate in balance. This is ready to drink and in the perfect window. I don't believe this will get any better. Drink'em up if you got'em.

Flight 2 (4 notes)

Syrah Showdown - as per usual, double blind in identical burlap wine bags

2013 Lillian Winery Syrah Gold Series No. 3 USA, California

Everything you could want from a syrah. Great nose, wonderful texture, spice on the finish. Very well rounded and complete package in a wine. Earth, red and black fruits and some asphalt on the nose. Wonderful entry on the palate. Tasting note from memory.

Sluttiest wine of the night. Hitting on all cylinders. Integrated and ready to drink (decanted 2 hours). Lively wine with notes of raspberry, cassis, white pepper and a touch of toasty oak on the nose. Lush and expansive in the mouth. Very easy to drink. A touch of spice on the finish. This is a great wine! I'm a big fan!

The most ready to drink of all the wines we had tonight. Tree bark, blackberry and some asphalt on the nose. Well integrated and balanced in the mouth, incredibly no noticeable heat despite 15% alc (amazing!). Wonderful rich, spicy finish that went on and on. In a great window right now and should maintain peak drinking for 5+ years. Really delicious!

Epic wine thats going to improve with time in the bottle. Amazing nose with notes of clove, tree bark, minerals, dark fruits and some nice (what can only be described as) funk. In the mouth, silky tannins balanced out with a perfect dose of acidity. Caresses the palate and begs to be consumed. What a nice treat! This is a wine I hope to get a taste of in the future. Really amazing!

Fantastic tasting! This one was the hardest to rank because all the wines showed so well and had different aspects that made them great. Very impressive night of wines!
