Old Timers Lunch at Coppola Sonoma

Tasted March 22, 2019 by Woodbridge Brad with 110 views

Introduction

Medium size group, sat at the Sonoma table. Too many good wines I did not get notes on, but a few were really memorable.

Flight 1 (4 notes)

Red
2016 Pedroncelli Sonoma Classico USA, California, Sonoma County
Soft accessible and attractively complex, very concentrated but not sweet. Big wine but didn't notice any heat. This wine could use a few more years in the bottle. Still quite nice with lunch.
Red
2014 Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon Mt. Veeder Single Block USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder
93 points
Way too young for consumption, big time Cabernet that is not just a pancake makeup beauty. This is the real deal and I would not try it again for at least three years. Very concentrated, tannins are appropriate and developing, good acid balance.

2017 Amisfield Dry Riesling New Zealand, South Island, Otago, Central Otago

Very nice dry Riesling, great acid balance and developed aromatics. Did not linger over it but worth a second visit.
Red
2016 Clos du Val Pinot Noir Gran Val Vineyard USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
Really nice Pinot, great balance of flavors and textures. Hard to describe because everything was so integrated and balanced. Definitely worth seeking out for another more leisurely tasting.
