King Family tasting

Sofitel Lafayette Square

The two bottles were bought at Whole Foods, to make up for the fact that several people suggested I go visit this winery, and in the end I did not make it out there. Still interesting to try and I agree that this was better than many other Virginia whites I tried in that they had decent acidity levels. Still not up to par with the best whites from Linden for example.

timid nose, lots of vanilla. Quite fat body (batonnage?), the acidity is there, which makes this one of the few chardonnays from Virginia that is decently fresh, but the acidity feels hard... not sure what that is a sign of, but it does not perfectly rhyme with the fat body. Some bitter notes from the oak on the finish. I think they should ease up on the oak. Should be fine. Very good chardonnay for Virginia.

Fun stuff! A blend with some Viognier in it. Spicy, floral big perfume, lovely texture on the palate, but there's a stinger that detracts a bit. Tropical fruit palette, dry and with decent acidity. The Viognier comes to the fore.
