Introduction

A day in the CC area.

Flight 1 - Il Molino di Grace (5 notes)

A quite nice organic estate, that I have never come across before. Very good wines more traditionally driven, as well as the usual breathtaking scenery and "agriturismo"option.

So lovely, this is elegant with tobacco and tea leaves, inviting, medium bodied, packed with youminess. Lovely structured and in a different way than some other 2015 that offered too much of a ripe fruit.

2012 Il Molino di Grace Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Il Margone Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
92 points
Fragrant, plush, weighty with soft tannins, and fine structure.
Red
2011 Il Molino di Grace Gratius Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

More evident french oak here (barriques and tonneaux new and second pass),structured body and ripe fruits, solid effort coming from a single vineyard with yields as low as 22 hl/ha

2010 Terre delle Falcole (Il Molino di Grace) Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

What a pleasure for drinking now, matured with tobacco and tea leaves, elegantly structured, this is a great buy, offering a lot for the money.

Flight 2 - Brancaia (9 notes)

Mesmerizing place, a bit modern styled wines but balance and quality at all levels. Nice lunch as well.

White
2018 Brancaia Il Bianco Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

SB 90% the rest is Viognier. Good typicity with some citric nose and passion fruit. The wine spend 5 months on the lees and 1/3 in barique hence the nice weight and well rounded appearance.
Much better than the average Tuscan bianco.
Rosé
2018 Brancaia Rosato Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
89 points
Pale colour, fresh, melon and light fruit, elegant. Comes from their Maremma merlot and is easily enjoyable.
Red
2016 Brancaia Tre Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
88 points
Fruity but with some charm, less acidity more roundness, Sangiovese 80%, merlot and CS 10% each coming from their estates in Radda, Maremma, Castellina, production more than 200 000 bottles. Not bad everyday sipper.

100 % sangiovese, fermented in steel and cement tanks, cherries on the nose, medium weighted , delicious and persistent start to finish

2015 Brancaia Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

More structure and weight than CC, oak is present but all is in balance. Oily in the mouth, very delicious, just starting to drink nicely. The best grapes only, matured for 16 months in French oak, half new, will keep my bottles for at least 4-5y.

2016 Brancaia Cabernet Sauvignon Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT

Typical Maremma CS nose, that I quite like. Medium weight , a lot of energy and with sense the place. Oily, spicey, not overly complicated but delicious. A bit pricey for € 30 at the winery, but delivers.

So ready for drinking now, vibrant, fresh and balanced, silky with polished tannins, utterly delicious. Great job.
Usually blended from CS 40% PV 40% CF 20%.

This is more rough than 2014, seriously structured, lifted mid palate, very solid, well balanced, but this needs 4-5 y in the bottle to settle down.
Blended from CS 40% PV 40% CF 20%, 18 months in French oak half of which new, it is a blockbuster type.
Red
2015 Brancaia Il Blu Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
95 points
This is in the league of a good Bordeaux. On the nose blueberries, blackberries, a touch of creme fraiche and spices. Weighted presence and appeal, plush and exuberant, but lovely taut. A blend of 70% Merlot, 25% Sangiovese, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.

Flight 3 - Castello della Paneretta (3 notes)

A quick revisit of this beautiful castello, nestled between Castello di Monsanto and Isole e Olena, only 3 wines this time to taste this time.

Red
2015 Castello della Paneretta Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
91 points
So lovely fruity and fresh, vibrant with lifted mid palate, this is a great CC from that lovely estate, every vintage I drink is so pure and joyful, but here the fruit definition is a touch more expressive juicy. To buy by the case.
Sangiovese 85%, Canaiolo 10%, Colorino 5%, French oak barrels 50 and 30 hl for 12 months
Red
2014 Castello della Paneretta Canaiolo Barberino Val d'Elsa Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
91 points
Good acidity and backbone, light to medium weighted but there is a nice persistence start to finish, there are some tannins present as well, very interesting to try as there are not many 100% canaiolo bottling around. This is a great job from that vintage.
New barriques for 24 months, 1600 bottles only.
Red
2011 Castello della Paneretta Chianti Classico Riserva Torre a Destra Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
92 points
Lovely serious, but yet fresh and approachable, a good riserva that is just starting to shine. Sangiovese 100%, single vineyard, new barrique for 24 months, current release 2011, what a chance to buy a nice CC with 6y in the bottle and of course a decade ahead.

Closing

Very high quality of the wines again, intended to visit Castello di Monsanto, but should have checked beforehand, that it is by appointment only. Anyway always nice to come back to Castello della Paneretta.
