Flight 1 (2 notes)

White
2006 Gaja Langhe Rossj Bass Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
90 points
Lush with yellow fruits on the nose. Concentrated and medium-bodied with nice balance of fruits and acidity. Should hold well until 2025.
White
2012 Gaja Langhe Rossj Bass Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
90 points
Still fairly closed. Full yellow fruits and some pecan nut notes on the nose. Similar on the palate with attractive finish. Needs another 5 years, 90 points for now.

Flight 2 (5 notes)

Red
1970 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
88 points
From 3,8 liter format. Stewed fruits, prune and mushrooms in the nose. Mature but still powerful. Drying in the finish. Quite a coarse style of Barolo. One of us mentioned this might have been fortified with Barbaresco.
Red
1961 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
This (in 0,75 liter) was better than the (3,8 liter) 1970 MdB Barolo beside. Powerful nose with red fruits, earth, tar and menthol notes. Elegant, mature and classic Barolo that should still keep well for years. Very interesting and surprisingly young for its age.

1985 Giacosa Fratelli Barolo Pira di Castiglione Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Mature classic Barolo in style. Stewed fruits, sweet red fruits and bit astringent in the finish. Missing energy, passed drinking window?
Red
1997 Elvio Cogno Barolo Vigna Elena Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
Very stylish and elegant Barolo. Beautiful fruits, tobacco, spices and red fruits in the nose. Great wine that should keep well for more years.
Red
2003 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Medium to full bodied with dried fruits and good freshness. Seems more built on power than elegance (compared with 1997 Barolo Elena by Cogno).

Flight 3 (4 notes)

Red
1997 Roberto Voerzio Barolo La Serra Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
94 points
Combination of power and elegance. Shows younger than 22 years. Refined and complex nose with notes of vanilla, prunes, sourdough and smoke. More exciting and complex than the Voerzio Serra 1999 beside. On the palate great concentration, elegance and depth. Great Barolo.
Red
2005 Roberto Voerzio Barolo La Serra Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
95 points
Great delineation, still in its early stage of development. Beside the wonderful 1997 this wine could even be better in some years from now. Dark and powerful with complex (but closed) bouquet and palate. Try again in 5 years.
Red
2001 Roberto Voerzio Barolo Riserva Vecchie Viti dei Capalot e delle Brunate Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
94 points
From magnum. Intoxicating perfume with loads of dark fruits, ripe prunes, cherries as well as eucalyptus. Great balance on the palate, lots of fruits, leather notes and good freshness. Drinks well now but could use more time to develop.
