Introduction

Nice little reception and dinner at the Boyle MacDonald tasting room.

Flight 1 (7 notes)

Red
2015 Domaine Carneros Pinot Noir Avant Garde USA, California, Napa / Sonoma, Carneros
86 points
Very dependent on oak this is a middle of the road Pinot. Nothing wrong technically but no real personality. Would not turn it down, might have a second glass if that were the only choice.
Red
2014 Opolo Montagna-Mare USA, California, Central Coast, Paso Robles
Ripe and oaky, subtle as baseball bat. Tons of alcohol. Okay for masochistic drinker.
White
2014 Pieropan Soave Classico Calvarino Italy, Veneto, Soave Classico
89 points
Damn nice. All the flavor tasted things that make me like Soave. Weight, acid balance and extremely drinkable.
White
2017 Acquiesce Roussanne USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi
89 points
Lovely wine. Not my favorite variety and I still like it. Balanced and not alcoholic the mild Roussane flavors are there.
Rosé
2018 Boyle Macdonald Sangiovese Sangiovese Bianco USA, California, Sierra Foothills, Calaveras County
89 points
Very fresh and quite lovely. Great balance.
Red
2015 Boyle Macdonald Red Blend USA, California
90 points
A blend of Napa Valley Cabernet and other reds from the Sierra Foothills this is a big wine that has tons of supple depth. The NV Cabernet is the dominant character and it is excellent. The other red added roundness without losing any of the Bdx like intensity. Well priced at $28.
Rosé
2018 Sierra Starr Sun Spot Rose Nevada County USA, California, Sierra Foothills, Nevada County
88 points
My score is approximate, but this is a very nice fresh balanced rose. My notes are brief as I only got a splash during a reception in Murphys.
