Flight 1 (6 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Drusian Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore Italy, Veneto, Valdobbiadene Prosecco Superiore DOCG
Pale, fine bubbles. Citrus, moderate dosage, good soil finish. Good sparkler.
Red
2015 AR.PE.PE. Rosso di Valtellina Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Rosso di Valtellina
Pale-actually looks like a rosé. Light scent of cherry. Very light weight. Bark and soil flavors, excellent acidity. A true wine of the earth.
Red
2012 AR.PE.PE. Valtellina Superiore - Grumello Rocca de Piro Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Grumello
Pale. Soil infused nose. More weight, sap, and ripeness than in the 2015 Rosso. In the mouth, lots of earth, good citrus, and low pitched, tart cherry.
Red
2012 AR.PE.PE. Valtellina Superiore - Sassella Stella Retica Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Sassella
Same color as the Grumello. Intense burst of cherry liqueur. Lean, deep dark fruit, less tannic than the former wine of the same vintage, brisk, citric, earthy finish that clings. On balance, I like how it starts more than how it finishes.
Red
2007 AR.PE.PE. Valtellina Superiore - Sassella Riserva Ultimi Raggi Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Sassella
Light tawny color. Floral aromas. Light, lovely strawberry atop a fine soil base that carries through to the long, gentle finish. Fully resolved. My favorite of the reds by far. This really has some of that ethereal Nebbiolo mystery and magic.

1997 AR.PE.PE. Valtellina Superiore - Sassella Riserva Rocce Rosse Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Sassella
Dull light tawny color. Spicy aromatics. Piquant, lively light wine with prominent acidity and some VA. Late harvest character, interesting combination of bitter chocolate and soil on the finish. Pretty unique, I must say, but not as satisfying as the 2007 Ultimi Raggi.
