A Day Trip to Healdsburg
Single Thread ***
Tasted April 6, 2019 by MikeJK with 157 views
Introduction
Justin and I had lunch at the *** Single Thread. Beautiful restaurant with visually stunning and unique Japanese-inspired dishes focused on the quality of ingredients over technique and artifice. I generally spring for the top beverage pairing, as we did here; however, in this instance we were disappointed by the value. Most of the 'prestige' wines serves were well past prime and none were benchmark. Enjoy the food and the typical pairing... don't waste money on the reserve pairing, it's a scam.
Flight 1 (11 notes)
White
1989 Chateau Musar Cuvée Blanc
93 points
Obaideh blend. The somm's TN was "like a ham sandwich" and I agreed. That's what I have for you. Buy and drink if you like to explore.
Red
1947 Thomas Bassot Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes
89 points
Wine was cloudy with sediment and obviously well past due, but it was an interesting experience none the less. For some reason I thought of cocoa nibs. Probably peaked in the 60s.
Red
1964 Louis M. Martini Cabernet Sauvignon California Mountain Special Selection
89 points
This wine was still medium ruby and crystal clear / star bright. It was probably heavily filtered before bottling and may have had a little life left if stored on fines but not so. This wine was interesting to experience as a piece of history but not memorable on the nose or palate.
White - Fortified
1908 D'Oliveiras Madeira Boal
93 points
The real value is the piece of history. This tastes like above average Madeira but is mind blowing because it's over 100 years old. Don't buy thinking it will change your life... go with something from the 60s.
