Flight 1 (21 notes)

White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Gimonnet & Fils Champagne Premier Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuis France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Unknown disgorgement. Light, crisp, off dry citrus. Very good.
White - Sparkling
N.V. Pierre Péters Champagne Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs Brut Cuvée de Réserve France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
November, 2018 disgorgement. Fuller and drier than the Gimonnet, but not nearly as austere as the last bottle I tried.
White - Sparkling
N.V. L. Aubry Fils Champagne Premier Cru Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Unknown disgorgement. Very yeasty, dry, overly tart.
White - Sparkling
2012 Moussé Fils Champagne Terre d'illite Blanc de Noirs France, Champagne
Hay aromas. Off dry with some early oxidative notes, caramel.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Gaston Chiquet Champagne Premier Cru Brut Rosé France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru
Very pale. Strawberry scented. Dry, full bodied, deep black cherry fruit. I liked this.
White - Sparkling
2009 Larmandier-Bernier Champagne Grand Cru Vieille Vigne du Levant Extra Brut France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru
Very toasty and full. Didn't seem quite as fresh as a bottle last week.
White
2014 Matthias et Emile Roblin Sancerre Ammonites France, Loire Valley, Upper Loire, Sancerre
I had such a strong visceral reaction to the pungently varietal nose that I literally could not bring myself to put it my mouth. Take this for what it is-a sniffing rather than a tasting note!
White
2016 Domaine de la Roche Bleue Jasnières Clos des Molières France, Loire Valley, Jasnières
Full bodied with very nice texture and excellent apple fruit.
White
2016 Domaine Richou Savennières La Bigottière France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières
Slightly earthy but not too funky. Ripe apple, excellent feel and acidity. Very good.
White - Sweet/Dessert
2015 Le Rocher des Violettes Montlouis-sur-Loire Moelleux Le Grand Poirier France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Montlouis-sur-Loire
Full yellow. Sweet pear, tangy. Best in the mid-palate before its intensity falls off at the end.
White
2015 Garnier et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Vaudésir France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Yellow. Citric, low acidity, good feel, minimal minerality. Middling 2015 Chablis hardly worthy of Grand Cru status but open now.
Red
2015 Monthélie-Douhairet-Porcheret Monthélie 1er Cru Le Meix Bataille France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Monthélie 1er Cru
Medium ruby. Fragrant. Supple, reasonable concentration, red fruited, some soil on the finish. Good.
Red
2017 Arnaud Mortet Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Ruby. Ripe, spicy nose. Red fruit, good volume but lots of wood. A bit of soil. Modern and very much in the Mortet style, which leaves me flat for all of oak make up. Already drinkable, though.

Red
2014 Domaine Taupenot-Merme Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Pale. Slight barnyard. Light weight but enough volume, cool black fruit, nice earthy feel, excellent acidity. This could use a few years but puts 2014 in a favorable light for its more classic structure and delicacy.
Red
2015 Domaine les Pallières Gigondas Les Racines France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
Pale color. Spicy red fruit and earth.
Red
2016 Domaine du Vieux Télégraphe Châteauneuf-du-Pape Télégramme France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
Deep color. Strong garrigue. Chewy dark fruit with excellent ripeness followed by a good shot of tannin. Impressive at this second wine level. It makes quite a strong partner for the Vieux Telegraphe La Crau. Hold for at least 5 years.

Red
2015 Paul Jaboulet Aîné Hermitage La Maison Bleue France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Hermitage
Deep ruby. Very ripe aromas. Surprisingly, not that fruity in the mouth. Good acidity and grip.
Red
2016 Château Cantemerle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Haut-Médoc
Medium ruby. Herbal aromatics. Elegant feel, herbaceous, tart finish. Good.
Red
2016 Château Taillefer France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol
Ruby. Round and ripe, some wood underneath. Long. Really good value.
Red
2016 Château Pontet-Canet France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
Deep ruby. Perfect ripeness, backward, serious, outstanding length. Classic Pauillac, a real winner that is amazingly easy to taste at this young stage since it is superbly balanced.

White - Sweet/Dessert
2015 Château Coutet France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Barsac
Half bottle. Medium yellow. Apricot and honey. Rich and sweet but restrained. Distinctive grapefruit twist at the end. Excellent.
