Introduction

Taught light Italian Wines course at What Am I Drinking?! In Bryn Mawr.

Flight 1 (6 notes)

Red
2017 Feudo di Santa Tresa Terre Siciliane Frappato Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane
88 points
A classic summer red... simple, but elegant and fresh.
Red
2018 Elena Walch Schiava Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol
90 points
Big cherry, mineral notes, but remains light on its feet. Good stuff.
Red
2017 J. Hofstätter Meczan Pinot Nero Blauburgunder Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol
90 points
Classic, varietally correct pinot noir. Cherry, cola, earth. A beauty and a nice value.
Red
2016 Tenuta Olim Bauda Grignolino d'Asti Isolavilla Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Grignolino d'Asti
90 points
A unique one... starts light and fresh, finishes with sneaky tannin. Good savory notes too. Nice example of the variety.
Red
2017 Tenuta delle Terre Nere Etna Rosso Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC
91 points
Perhaps a little bolder than earlier vintages (Lucifer and all), but still a beauty. Lovely balance, fresh and complex.

Red - Sparkling
2016 Fiorini Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro Becco Rosso Italy, Emilia-Romagna, Lambrusco Grasparossa di Castelvetro
91 points
Things I love about this: the impossibly deep color, the not too fizzy effervescence, the bone dry finish. Lovely example of what Lambrusco can be.
