White
2009 Vincent Dauvissat (René & Vincent) Chablis 1er Cru La Forest France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Dull deep yellow that lightened with air, as did the aromas. That said, some mature honey/truffle along with orange peel. One of those Dauvissats that took over an hour to get going. Definitely a broader, richer rendition of La Forest, but still excellent citrus, iodine, and good verve for the year. Nothing tired about it, but not destined to be a long ager.

White
2009 Hubert Lamy Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Yellow. Herb and lemon with increasing cut flowers. Medium weight, more elegant than the Dauvissat Forest of the same vintage. Deep flavors, outstanding acidity and limestone. This got better and better over time, suggesting that it ain't done yet. Another very impressive showing of this outperforming vineyard and producer.
Red
2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Chambolle-Musigny Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny
Light ruby with maturing rim. Ripe, expressive red fruit. Wonderful sap, depth, and sweetness for a village wine with a lively orange peel top note. This is just about ready, but I could see it improving over another 2-3 years in bottle. Both of the Lignier-Michelot village wines showed beautifully tonight, but once again, well made 2005's (even those lower in the food chain) demonstrate that they are unfolding very slowly.

More floral and minty the second night while retaining its lovely fruit. Bravo!
Red
2005 Domaine Lignier-Michelot Morey St. Denis Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Slightly deeper color than the Chambolle. Black fruit and a bit brambly. Meatier than the Chambolle, but again, excellent depth and complexity for a village wine. This has some remaining tannin and should benefit from a few more years in bottle. I loved the way these 2 village wines were true to their respective appellations. Truly two 2005 wines that seem above their place in the red Burgundy hierarchy.

The dark black cherry fruit deepened, and it expressed more earth after being open overnight. Terrific!

Closing

The 2005 Lignier-Michelots provided the clearest evidence to date that there is a light at the end of the tunnel and that the reds from this vintage (well, at least the more modest ones) are actually starting to come around!
