Wine and Roses Inn, Lodi

Tasted August 27, 2019 by Woodbridge Brad with 56 views

Semi annual dinner for the partners with YTD report. Lovely dinner done by Chef Jake Des Voignes, wine pairings by Ben Caldwell, CS

Flight 1 (5 notes)

2017 Fields Family Wines Vermentino DeLu Vineyard USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

A nicely executed clean white, mildly citrus, with a good acid structure. Lower alcohol and easy to drink, lovely with a fruit and arugula salad. There was a hint of age in the background, this is a wine for today not tomorrow.
2018 Bokisch Vineyards Verdejo Clay Station USA, California, Central Valley, Borden Ranch

In general i like this wine but I would love to see a bit more freshness and acidity in it also a more focus of the varietal flavor. It is a mildly aromatic white, and it is pleasant but the sweetness of the corn broth overshadowed it easily.
2018 Neyers Chardonnay 304 USA, California, Sonoma County

Boy is this an attractive Chardonnay. Pure fruit unadorned by oak, recalls Chablis but with a bit more fruit. Excellent. Paired with Halibut it was remarkable and was a hit at the table.
2017 Markus Wine Co. Toura USA, California, Central Valley, Lodi

A very complex and attractive wine. Definite Touriga varietal flavors, very intense developed fruit, ample acidity, and a long elegant finish. I am not sure of the winemaking details but there is definite development without the distraction of oak. Almost a touch too acidic to have without food it was excellent with the ribeye. Great aging potential.
2017 Heinz Eifel Riesling Kabinett Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

A nice but only mildly expressive Mosel. Well balanced and clean, slightly sweet with a clean finish. Good for the price point but I would spend a bit more and get a lot more.
