Introduction

We brought one bottle each and tasted the wines blind.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

Red
1961 Château de Pressac France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Impressive!!! Deep dark, almost black colour. Strange strong bouquet with dark fruit, oak and alcohol. The taste is strange as well (I apparently did not know how to describe it at the time). It is earthy, there is a lot of acidity. The wine is full bodied, and although the tannin is a bit dry it still seems to have enough power. The wine was not really great, but it is one of very few I tasted from this magical vintage, .......and that colour!!
Red
1971 Clos des Jacobins France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru

Completely mature and complex bouquet. There still is some red fruit. Clearly oak as well. Liquorice and caramel. The tannin is ripe and sooo soft. Delicious wine at its best drinking moment.
Red
1970 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
91 points
Powerful bouquet with cassis and liquorice and pleasant oak and alcohol. Full bodied. Powerful but soft tannin. Fills the mouth completely. Full bodied and a long creamy aftertaste. Enough potential for many years.
