Introduction

Richard Zambuni's Jadotfest. Consistent showing from the wines, and even better food - a great evening.

Flight 1 - Crab raviolo, cobnuts, pumpkin foam (2 notes)

White
2012 Louis Jadot Meursault Les Narvaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
90 points
Quite a big wine, especially on the nose, with smoky oak. Palate is more steely and apple-focused, and the finish falls away a little, but the wine has a lovely soft texture. Felt completely ready, but it blossomed with an hour or two in glass, becoming much richer and more giving.
White
2006 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
88 points
Smoky, long and lemony, still quite young and taut despite its advancing age, attractively floral but somewhat bitter on the finish. Didn't develop much in the glass. A bit too subtle for me I'm afraid.

Flight 2 - Roast grouse, grains, swede puree (3 notes)

Red
2001 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
91 points
Some bricking and this obviously has some age before it's even tasted. Quite chewy, dark and smoky, with a fresh fruity finish, so still relatively youthful, although certainly has no lack of maturity. A lovely wine tonight.
Red
2002 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Ursules Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Quite a high-toned nose, with exotic sandalwood and lots of red fruit. Noticeable tannin, so not yet quite ready - over the evening the wine dipped in and out of being wonderful and by turns a bit closed and crude.

From magnum. Exotic nose, crisp, fresh and red on the palate, long and moreish, but tainted by an underlying sense of greenness. Will that be overcome by age or will this remain 'just' a juicy, food-friendly wine?

Flight 3 - BBQ rib of beef, bone marrow sauce (3 notes)

Red
1999 Louis Jadot Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Couchereaux Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

From magnum. Pine and spice on the engaging and intoxicating nose. Silky mouthfeel, quite gamey, and very long - my WOTN.

My wine tonight. A lovely roundness - soft and lovely, with plenty of fruit and no lack of maturity. Interesting to taste again in a few years.

Quite herbal, and a little green. Some volatility/Brett? Came across quite old, mineral and fine - a nice wine, but time to drink these soon.

Flight 4 - Mimolette and onion tarte fine (2 notes)

Red
2001 Louis Jadot Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Feusselottes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru

Doesn't have the finesse or perfume of the best Chambolle, but does have lovely depth, and is sweet and fun, smoky and classic. Feels fully ready but continues to have plenty in the tank. Easy to drink a lot of this wine.

From magnum. Surprisingly funky and smoky on the nose - that 'Jorvik Viking centre' feel. Tasty bitter cherry on the palate, and a nice length, but the unusual nose and the rather fresh palate don't knit together wholly successfully.
