Tired. Stewed and black tea notes on the palate suggest it's over the hill, though others like it more than I.

Normally love this wine, but this wasn't the best showing I've experienced. The fruit is somewhat muddled without the clarity and brightness I've found in the past, and the green/earthy/other savoury elements are not as complex as I've found in other bottles of this.

Excellent showing. Classic claret, still needs a bit of air for the tannin to soften and the aromatics to really emerge, but it's worth the patience. The core of black fruited flavours still seems very fresh, and there's a lovely earthy/cedary savouriness around it, along with the classic Pauillac lead pencil and tobacco elements.

Nice to have a chance to try this - I can see why it's hyped so much as the balance and depth here are striking with layers of fruit, smoke, gravelly earth, herbs, and more developed savouriness coming together. The aromatics seem slightly reticent though and there's still quite a bit of tannic firmness to the palate. This feels very, very youthful still, and right now it's an outstanding wine but gives the impression it needs a lot more time to develop into something more.

Liked but didn't love this - lots of rich red and black fruit accented with cedar wood, fresh herbs, floral notes, and tobacco, but it feels a touch severe on the palate with the fruit feeling a bit extracted and a lot of tannin on the finish. I'd hope time brings more balance as the tannin eases, but right now it's more about promise than immediate enjoyment.

Very pretty - very fresh, bright dark fruited flavours augmented with more savoury earthiness. Not especially complex, but very easy to drink with the tannin more gentle than I expected and the acidity giving it a nice sense of freshness.

An impressive wine, but like the '89 HB poured a bit earlier, this is more about promise than immediate enjoyment. Lots of depth to the fruit here with more savoury oak, earth, and walnut accents, but it still feels very primary in terms of both the richness and tannic structure.

A great showing. In that zone where the black fruit is still very youthful and rich, but showing plenty of savoury development around it with lots of earth, spice, tobacco, and just a whiff of leather. Still a bit of fine grained tannin on the back end, but drinking quite nicely now.
