Introduction

New friends and mostly older wines make a nice combo! Reds were decanted for 1-2 hours+ before the sit down, followed for another 2 hours.
Featured pairings:
Viognier and Pad Thai
Pinot and smoked salmon, minted goat cheese
CdP and smoked hazelnuts, Medjool date slivers
Bordeaux and Iberico ham

Flight 1 - The Opening White (1 note)

White
2018 Abacela Viognier USA, Oregon, Southern Oregon, Umpqua Valley
90 points
30 minutes at room temp in a glass, this wine was recognizable for its floral, tropical fruit, white stone fruit an spice notes. Nice acidity and depth made it pretty good with Pad Thai. Now-2022.

Flight 2 - The Reds (4 notes)

Red
2012 Archery Summit Pinot Noir Archer's Edge USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
92 points
Looking for an Arcus in the cellar, I found this bottle I never put in CT. Would have been a wine club bottle and stored fairly cool for the last 5 years here. 1 hour decant off some significant sediment. Very tasty dark cherry, red plum, spice and mineral notes. Now-2022
Red
2007 Domaine Giraud Châteauneuf-du-Pape Tradition France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
92 points
2 hour decant. Same score I gave it in 6/2010 but for different reasons. The brash playful wine is now seasoned, wizened, and serene. Kirsch, leather, spice and garrigue notes. All 5 of us preferred this over the '07 Janasse. On plateau, now-2022.
Red
2007 Domaine de la Janasse Châteauneuf-du-Pape France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape
91 points
After the more sublime Giraud, this was a little over the top, VERY ripe and still boisterous. Black fruit, leather, iodine, garrigue, and spice. This bottle was a surprise find in the cellar / thought we drank 'em all...
IF I had another one: wait a year-2025.

Red
2008 Château La Confession France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion Grand Cru
92 points
After a 2 hour decant this bottle was really on point. More black than red fruit, plum, mocha, spice and florals. Hints or earth and cigar. Nice length and texture made it a real crowd pleaser. Now -2024
