White - Sparkling
2014 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Millésimé Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules France, Champagne
90 points
Magnum. Still young and primary. Good fruit and richness, though I think it will fill out with more time. Plenty of minerality and crisp fruit right now.
White - Sparkling
2004 Philipponnat Champagne Brut Clos des Goisses France, Champagne
88 points
Just a bit too earthy for my tastes. Good density, structure and energy.
White - Sparkling
2004 Ruinart Champagne Dom Ruinart Blanc de Blancs France, Champagne
93 points
Still going strong. Really love the rich toasty fruit, combined with a pure and bright energy.
White - Sparkling
1993 Moët & Chandon Champagne Cuvée Dom Pérignon France, Champagne
93 points
Fully mature. The fruit is rich and dense, showing its age, but in a way that adds complexity without appearing tired. Plenty of freshness and energy.

1994 Bruno Giacosa Grignolino d'Asti Italy, Piedmont, Asti, Grignolino d'Asti
An interesting curiosity. Nose shows some nice fruit and earth. Palate is pretty simple and limpid.
Red
1968 Cappellano Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Just terrific. The aromas are superb -- dried fruit, dried herb, tar and spice. The palate still has a touch of sweetness to the fruit. A subtle but nuanced finish.
Red
1976 Cappellano Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Not in the same class as the '68 tasted side by side. This was more earthy and dirty in flavor, and was largely dried out on the palate. Solid but not distinctive.
Red
1998 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sorì San Lorenzo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
93 points
So youthful and rich. Really defies its 21 years of age. Mostly about the fruit right now with spice and florals adding some interest. Tannins are chewy but enveloped in the decadent fruit. Fun now. Probably a more complete wine in 5-10 years. Preferred the more integrated Sori Tildin side by side.
Red
1998 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sorì Tildìn Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
95 points
In an amazing spot right now. Youthful fruit but layered with smoke, spice and florals. Bright aromas. So well integrated and balanced. A big, forward wine but everything is in harmony.
Red
2000 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Riserva Asili Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
flawed
Damn ... corked.
Red
2000 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Rabajà Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
94 points
A pretty sharp contrast to the 98 Gaja SSL and ST served side by side. More ethereal and feminine here. Strawberry and cherry with pronounced florals. In a prime window now and should age for decades effortlessly.
Red
1971 Gaja Langhe Nebbiolo Sori del Turco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
97 points
One of the wines of the night. Totally youthful and showing so young with bright, round and sweet fruit that is made so complex by dried herb, dried floral and tar notes. Wow. As is the case with most aged Nebbiolo, this needed a lot of air to show well.
Red
1974 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
93 points
Double decanted ~9 hours before serving. Big smoke and tar filled aromatics. Rich fruit and still chewy tannin. Mature but still has plenty of stuffing for a 45-year old. Persistent finish.
Red
1974 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
93 points
Double decanted ~9 hours prior to serving. Smoky and red cherries in the nose. The palate is still fruit forward and juicy while also showing plenty of nuanced and complexity. Has your typical Giacosa elegance. Terrific.
Red
1979 Bruno Giacosa Barbaresco Gallina di Neive Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
94 points
Impressively youthful and bright while showing loads of layering and complexity. This can go another decade or two.
Red
1989 Giuseppe Rinaldi Barolo Riserva Brunate Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
92 points
Perhaps the most disappointing wine relative to sky-high expectations. Nothing wrong with this wine as it has it all - red cherries, spice and florals - with youthful fruit and structure. Just missing that extra gear.
Red
1990 Gaja Barolo Sperss Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
93 points
An excellent wine, if a little atypical in that it has a pronounced bell pepper note that takes you to Bordeaux. Otherwise delicious and complete. In an early stage of it's drinking window.

1996 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Riserva Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

This has been near perfect the other two times I've had it, and tonight is no exception. It just needs a couple of decades to hit its peak. But already so good. Stuffed like you wouldn't believe but approachable and delicious. Great delineation.

1999 Bruno Giacosa Barolo Le Rocche del Falletto di Serralunga d'Alba Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

In peak form now. Fresh with round, sweet fruit that is layered and delineated.
Red
1974 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino Speciale Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
94 points
Birth year wine and a real treat to drink this right before my birthday. Double decanted ~10 hours prior to serving. Big boastful nose shows smoky and tar notes paired with still youthful black fruit. The palate is complex and has terrific dense texture. Should hold just fine for another 5-10 years.

1982 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Cascina Francia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Amazing wine and bested the '74 and '00 Monfortino served in the same flight. This wine is stuffed with rich, complex fruit that is pure and very long in the mouth. Wow.

2000 Giacomo Conterno Barolo Riserva Monfortino Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo

Sure, this is delicious and a lot of fun to drink now with massive proportions. It also sports an array of flavors with lots of spice. But the best is definitely yet to come. Needs 10-15+ years to really unfold and shine.
White - Sparkling
2000 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut France, Champagne
Champagne intermezzo. Still going strong. Classic Krug notes of toasty orchard fruit. Good energy and freshness.

White - Fortified
1905 Barbeito Madeira Malvasia Reserva Velha Portugal, Madeira

Magic how these 100+ year old Madeiras retain their freshness. Complex and layered with nutty and caramel notes.
Red
2015 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Late night pop n' pour to take this out for a test drive. Worth the hype. Stuffed with pure, poised red cherry fruit. Has loads licorice and floras. Open knit and welcoming for now. Better in 20+ years.

2007 Domaine Dujac Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Gruenchers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
93 points
Late night pop n' pour. Served blind to friends -- though they knew it was Dujac. Many guessing Grand Cru. This has so much stem spice in the nose -- it's so good and so intense. Palate is round and fresh with more stem spice. Delicious and 1er cru density in my view. Should drink well for another 5-10 years.
Red
1996 Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas France, Rhône, Northern Rhône, Cornas
92 points
This is classic Clape with pronounced and intense green olive with some smoke. Meaty, olivey on the palate. A bit thin but delicious and easy to enjoy.
Red - Sweet/Dessert
1998 Avignonesi Vin Santo di Montepulciano Occhio di Pernice Italy, Tuscany, Montepulciano, Vin Santo di Montepulciano
This is a singular wine. Never had anything like. So rich, dense and powerful with intense notes of raisin and spice. Could handle a sip.
