Red
2015 Paolo Scavino Barolo Bric dël Fiasc Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Walk around tasting. Ripe cherry and plum with a richness and old vine concentration I truly appreciate. Near balance already, but still firm tannins on long-ish finish. Very good 91-92 point potential 2023 forward.
Red
2015 Luigi Baudana Barolo Cerretta Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Walk around tasting. More ripeness and density vs the traditional Vajra 2015 Barolo wines just tasted. Complex array of dark fruit and spice with tannins and an Old School character that will reward patience.
Red
2016 Tenuta Anfosso Rossese di Dolceacqua Superiore Italy, Liguria, Rossese di Dolceacqua Superiore
Walk around tasting. Fun and simple with a rugged finish. OK overall.
Red
2017 Guido Porro Barbera d'Alba Vigna S. Caterina Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba
86 points
Walk around tasting. Ripe and nearly sweet character that comes across as fun and simple, but then some bright acidity brightens up the finish. Good now.
Red
2015 Rocca di Castagnoli Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Walk around tasting. So much red cherry with some black cherry hints. Powerful, yet nearly balanced already. Very good value wine, better 2025-.
Red
2015 Giulia Negri Barolo La Tartufaia Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
89 points
Walk around tasting. Charming red cherry with anise and earth. Good young with classic Barolo character.
Red
2016 Silvio Giamello Barbaresco Vicenziana Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Walk around tasting. Dense and meaty, this is so, so Old School with power and good weight. Cellar to 2031-.
Red
2013 Sesti (Castello di Argiano) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Very Old school with layers and complexity, but I found it slightly dirty. Others liked this a lot more.
Red
2011 Giuseppe Quintarelli Cà del Merlo Veneto IGT Italy, Veneto, Veneto IGT
Walk around tasting. Lots of roasted meat and substance to start, but then this seems to trail off. Still good overall, possibly just shut down in the middle for now? 89 points today, upside?
Red
2016 Agrivinicola di Portelli Salvatore Frappato Italy, Sicily, Vittoria DOC
85 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Summery, light and fun with bright red cherry and medium weight.
Red
2015 Agrivinicola di Portelli Salvatore Cerasuolo di Vittoria Portelli Italy, Sicily, Cerasuolo di Vittoria
86 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Also light, bright and fun but with more red cherry and more substance.
Red
2018 Vigneti Vecchio Etna Sciare Vive Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC
88 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Red cherry start-to-finish. Light start followed b more power and density in the middle. Long finish shows an old vine concentration.
Red
2017 Grottafumata Terre Siciliane "Lato Sud" Rosso Italy, Sicily, Terre Siciliane
86 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Red and black cherry with a tannic start and softer middle. Better to cellar a year or two, then enjoy as a simple, fun wine.
Red
2017 Masseria del Pino Etna I Nove Fratelli Italy, Sicily, Etna DOC
91 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Red cherry, some berry with plenty of silky tannins. Very Pinot-like to me. Not a powerhouse, but this has sneaky density and a long finish. Better to cellar for at least a few years. This should drink well for many years.

Red
2015 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG

Walk around tasting, brief note. Light and simple with enough ripe red cherry to keep it fun. Exactly what to expect from entry level Chianti.

Red
2013 Isole e Olena Chianti Classico Gran Selezione Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
93 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Wow, this is an excellent expression of Chianti. Red cherry throughout, but with smoky, spicy, and near meaty notes, then some black cherry hints. Light and powerful at the same time with an endearing weightlessness and a long, expressive finish.
Red
2016 Isole e Olena Cepparello Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting, brief note. Lots of complex red fruit, followed by some black fruit. A long and elegant finish with some backward, Hardy notes that show backbone without distracting. Needs a few years to harmonize a little more, but very good 91+ point potential.
Red
2015 Isole e Olena Cabernet Sauvignon Collezione Privata Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
90 points
Walk around tasting, brief note. Unmistakably and prototypically Cabernet Sauvignon in an Old World, non-Bordeaux style. Lush and ripe plum, black cherry and currant in a charming, accessible combination.
Red
2016 Proprietà Sperino Uvaggio Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Coste della Sesia
Walk around tasting, brief note. 80% Nebbiolo comes through on floral charming nose. Same charm doesn’t follow through on rugged palate. OK overall. Needs lots of time?
Red
2013 Proprietà Sperino Lessona Italy, Piedmont, Northern Piedmont, Lessona
Walk around tasting, brief note. Also an enjoyable aromatic start, but tannic and slightly dirty. OK overall.
Red
2007 Crissante Alessandria Barolo Galina Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
87 points
Walk around tasting. Floral spiced and earthy with red fruit and medium weight and length. Limited upside, enjoyable now.
Red
2010 Crissante Alessandria Barolo Roggeri Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. Surprisingly earthy for a Barolo this young, making it slightly awkward. OK overall.
Red
2015 Diego Conterno Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. Ripe red fruit throughout with hints of licorice and balsamic. Lush start, more tannic middle forward, yet balanced. Medium weight. Will be a nice younger drinking Barolo, still better to cellar a few years.
Red
2015 Diego Conterno Barolo Ginestra Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Walk around tasting. A big step up. Much more concentration and power with as much charming red fruit. Not quite as overtly ripe, so slightly taut and austere, as often expected from young Barolo, but the density and substance imply a bright future, 2023-.
Red
2017 Collazzi Chianti Classico I Bastioni Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Walk around tasting. Basic and typical Chianti. Simple but certainly pleasant.
Red
2016 Pertimali (Livio Sassetti) Montecucco La Querciolina Italy, Tuscany, Montecucco
85 points
Walk around tasting. Accessible but a slightly austere finish. Good depth, ok balance.
Red
2015 Castello di Ama Chianti Classico Gran Selezione San Lorenzo Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
91 points
Walk around tasting. Clearly ripe red cherry throughout, this shows both concentration and structure that combine to hint at its potential, even if slightly firm today. Consistent with my tasting experience from a few weeks ago, 91+ point potential, better to cellar 2023-2035.

Red
2016 Collazzi Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
89 points
Walk around tasting. A near-modern and very Italian expression of a Bordeaux bland with lots of fun fruit and a good burst of energy from the middle forward. Very enjoyable, very good value wine to enjoy 2020-2026.

Red
2013 Pertimali (Angelo Sassetti) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Light color and aromatic start with earth, pale cherry and anise. Picks up depth quickly on palate, but also getting earthy and austere. Powerful, long finish. A lot here, but a very tough wine to fairly assess tonight. Another 2013 Brunello that baffles me.
Red
2013 Cabreo Il Borgo Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. black and red fruit with earth in a modern, forward style. Good now, probably no upside. Fun wine but not a good value wine.
Red
2017 Tenuta Sette Ponti Crognolo Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
87 points
Walk around tasting. Also very modern styled, but fun in its youthful exuberance. Easy to enjoy already, nothing complicated here.
Red
2017 Tenuta San Guido Guidalberto Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. Ripe and rich with a bit of earth, also in a modern style that I found more dominant here. I understand why some enjoy this wine. but it's not for me.
Red
2015 Tenuta di Biserno Il Pino di Biserno Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
88 points
Walk around tasting. Also modern styled with a right bank aspiration, this is fun and certainly tasty.
Red
2016 Tenuta di Nozzole Il Pareto Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. Seemed a little dirty.
Red
2017 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. Very pretty nose with ripe black fruit, spice and floral character, perhaps more than its fair share driven by oak, but still enchanting. Rich black-fruited flavor profile to start, then slightly hollow in the middle, finishes rich again. Give a few years to integrate, but I'd be optimistic, even if not a buyer at its price.
Red
2016 Fattoria dei Pagliarese Chianti Classico Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
88 points
Walk around tasting. Very easy start, so balanced and accessible with sneaky structure and good length. Very good value wine.

Red
2015 Fattoria dei Pagliarese Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
88 points
Walk around tasting. More substance here vs 2016 Chianti, but less balance or grace. Plenty of red cherry, spice hints but slightly firm finish.
Red
2016 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
88 points
Walk around tasting. Rich red cherry with spice and tobacco hints and slightly more earth than I'd expect so young. Good density for its price.

Red
2016 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Chianti Classico Riserva Rancia Italy, Tuscany, Chianti, Chianti Classico DOCG
Walk around tasting. Even more substance with plenty of red and black cherry and background spice, cedar and fresh herbs. Very good concentration, somewhat firmly structure for now, better 2022-, 91-92+ point potential.

Red
2016 Fattoria di Fèlsina Berardenga Fontalloro Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. Lots here, but I found it awkward and much tougher to enjoy or even appreciate for the future vs Rancia. Others liked this more.

Red
2016 Malvira' Roero Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Roero
Walk around tasting. Light start with some rough edges and funk. OK overall.
Red
2016 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Langhe Nebbiolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Walk around tasting. Rich and very fun, so easy to enjoy, but ultra modern I'd never have thought it Nebbiolo. (List said 2017, but bottle said 2016.)
Red
2015 La Spinetta (Rivetti) Barbaresco Vürsù Vigneto Valeirano Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Walk around tasting. Very powerful and ripe, transitioning to a leaner, long finish with good brightness. Still lots of red and black cherry throughout with spice a little too oak/ modern driven. Good 2030-.

Walk around tasting. Ripe but simple with good weight, then sneaky good length.
Red
2015 E. Pira & Figli (Chiara Boschis) Barolo Via Nuova Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Walk around tasting. Classic and old school styled wine, but the inherent ripeness manages to make this so charming already now. Spring flowers, bright red and black cherry with black pepper and anise. Sneaky power on finish.

Red
2015 Trediberri Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
91 points
Walk around tasting. From La Morra. Ripe red cherry with some modern styled elements, but good structure, but the tannins are on the silky side. Complex finish has more spice, fruit and nuanced textures. Cellar a few more years, enjoy, 2022-2040, 91-92 point potential.
Red
2015 Vietti Barolo Ravera Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. Floral and spice driven start with ripe red cherry. Red and black cherry flavors and blood orange and licorice hints. Soft tannins are ever-present in the near background. So much here, but tough to completely assess, but probably 92-93+ point potential. One of the tasting highlights.

Red
2015 Vietti Barbera d'Alba Vigna Vecchia Scarrone Italy, Piedmont, Alba, Barbera d'Alba

Walk around tasting. Black and blue fruit with very good density, while also well balanced. Good+ length. Better to cellar another year or three.
Red
2015 Sottimano Barbaresco Cottá Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
90 points
Walk around tasting. Starts off with roses, spice and red cherry aromas. Slightly riper on palate, with macerated red and black cherry with good+ concentration. Rugged tannins for now on the finish. Better from 2024-.
Red
2015 Nino Negri Valtellina Superiore - Sassella Le Tense Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore - Sassella
86 points
Walk around tasting. Good aromatic start implies richness not quite delivered on palate. Good to enjoy over the next few years.
Red
2015 Nino Negri Sfursat Carlo Negri Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina
Walk around tasting. Nebbiolo made like Amarone? Lots of dried red fruit that doesn't seem quite harmonious (yet?), so very tough to assess. I'd think this 87-88 points, but others enjoyed this more.
Red
2015 Nino Negri Sfursat 5 Stelle Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina
90 points
Walk around tasting. Huge step up. Red cherry and earth with complex layers already, even with its moderate concentration. Good length.
Red
2016 Marchesi di Barolo Langhe Rosso Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
87 points
Walk around tasting. Forward and fun with good balance and medium weight red fruit. Fun to enjoy young.
Red
2014 Marchesi di Barolo Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
88 points
Walk around tasting. Red berries here with earth, dried herbs and licorice. Good enough weight, better textures and overall brightness. Close to drinking well already.
Red
2014 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
88 points
Walk around tasting. Also on the lighter side, there is plenty of red cherry with some tobacco, earth and flora notes. classic and easy with medium weight. I slightly preferred the Barbaresco.
Red
2013 Marchesi di Barolo Barolo Cannubi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
89 points
Walk around tasting. Floral and nicely expressive aromatic start with red cherry and berry. Similar flavors but without the density I expect from this terroir. Certainly good, but slightly disappointing today.
Red
2014 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
90 points
Walk around tasting. Elegant and lighter styled, this seems open and easy to start, then really revs up its density and complexity from the middle forward. Sneaky good power on finish. Probably best to cellar a year or three, then enjoy on the young side for Brunello.
Red
2013 Ciacci Piccolomini d'Aragona Brunello di Montalcino Pianrosso Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Fresh and dried red cherry with tobacco and earth, giving this a slightly dirty note, but not necessarily in a bad way. Lots of spice and complexity here, but also firm and austere right now. I liked this and thought it 90+ points, while others enjoyed it much more.
Red
2014 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
88 points
Walk around tasting. Forward and easy start, hints of spice and nuance on finish, but less finessed than typical from Brunello.
Red
2016 Casanova di Neri Brunello di Montalcino Tenuta Nuova Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Complex set of red fruit and spice aromas and flavors with good enough density, but intriguing layers of nuance. Very interesting already with clear upside, 91+ point potential.
Red
2014 Fattoria dei Barbi (Colombini) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
89 points
Walk around tasting. Open and well balanced with good brightness and medium weight. Best for medium term enjoyment.
Red
2016 Fattoria dei Barbi (Colombini) Brusco dei Barbi Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
Walk around tasting. Enjoyable in a modern style that made this wine somewhat non-distinct for me. 10% Merlot.
Red
2013 Il Palazzone Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Meat, dried red cherry, tobacco, and leather lead a complex array of aromas and flavors in a very Old School combination that I just find slightly too tannic for the fruit.
Red
2013 Il Palazzone Lorenzo & Isabelle Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
87 points
Walk around tasting. Red and black cherry throughout with some modern and classic elements here. 50% Sangiovese with Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Charming now, but slightly dirty (bretty?) in a way that makes me think it best to drink younger.
Red
2015 Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno Barolo Cascina Nuova Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Walk around tasting. Charming red cherry and berry with floral and spice support with graceful tannins and a nearly approachable character already today.
Red
2015 Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno Barolo Ravera Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. A big step up, but not nearly as accessible. Lots of complex red fruit with equally complex, nuanced spice. Lots of very elegant tannins with a very long finish. Cellar to 2030 or later, 91-92+ point potential.

Red
2015 Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi) Rosso di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino
90 points
Walk around tasting. Light start, then suddenly bigger, riper and bolder from middle forward. Sneaky power on finish with impressive length. An excellent Rosso di Montalcino.
Red
2012 Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi) Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Walk around tasting. Complex red cherry with a broad array of floral, spice and fruit character in support. Lots of acidity and lots of silky tannins. Not a powerhouse, but this is a very elegantly nuanced wine that required time and attention. 92-93+ point potential. A real highlight tonight.
Red
2013 Romano Dal Forno Valpolicella Superiore Vigneto di Monte Lodoletta Italy, Veneto, Valpolicella, Valpolicella Superiore
Walk around tasting. Very rich and very dense with so much here, but imperfectly harmonized right now..but so much here. They have transitioned to 100% American oak.
Red
2014 Castellare di Castellina I Sodi di S. Niccolò Toscana IGT Italy, Tuscany, Toscana IGT
91 points
Walk around tasting. Bright red cherry with licorice and dried herb hints. Very elegant and bright, still slightly tannic on finish. Sangiovese and Malvasia Nera.
Red
2014 Altesino Brunello di Montalcino Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

Red
2014 Tasca D'Almerita Rosso del Conte Italy, Sicily, Contea di Sclafani
91 points
Walk around tasting. Black cherry and berry with very good weight and depth. Powerful and cellarworthy, just slightly rugged in the middle for now, better 2022-.
Red
2013 Damilano Barolo Cannubi Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. Floral start with so much red cherry and anise giving it a prototypically "Barolo" nose, but then a less classic palate that seems more modern andnot quite as charming or elegant. Tough to tell where this will emerge.
Red
2013 Boroli Barolo Cascina La Brunella Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Walk around tasting. Red cherry with so much spice on nose. So easy and charming to start with a long, expanding minerally finish. Excellent 91-92 point potential.
Red
2016 Fattoria Galardi Terra di Lavoro Italy, Campania, Campania IGT
92 points
Walk around tasting. Black and red cherry with so much substance and weight, just very firm tannins. Not quite harmonious, but there is so much great material here. More accessible than the earlier vintages from the early 2000s (which as just starting to come around), but this will also need a decade in the cellar.
