White - Sparkling
2012 Moët & Chandon Champagne Grand Vintage France, Champagne
89 points
Walk around tasting. Pretty orchard and citrus character with bright textures, with good weight, but just moderate nuance or complexity vs my expectations.
White - Sparkling
2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut La Grande Dame France, Champagne
91 points
Walk around tasting. So much berry character on nose and palate, very expressive flavors with a hint of toasted rye bread, and both fun and elegant textures. Good weight, and greater density would have made this more thrilling.

White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 167eme France, Champagne
90 points
Walk around tasting. Lots of apple and baked apple with pronounced toasted baguette and yeast coming through more clearly vs typical editions this young. Very good weight and balance. An edition I will prefer young vs aged. Consistent with prior bottles tasted.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
88 points
Walk around tasting. Current release, from magnum. Red berry and cherry throughout with good enough concentration, better textures and balance. A good release for this wine.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Rosé Edition 23eme France, Champagne
93 points
Walk around tasting. Enticing combination of berry and apple aromas and flavors, well supported with floral charm. Good Weight, better length, but the balance and textural elegance are the stars here. I liked this more tonight vs when last tasted a few months back.
White
2015 Domaine des Malandes Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
90 points
Walk around tasting. Magnum. Ripe and fleshy start with a brighter finish, still not quite coming across as classically "Chablis." Good richness throughout, but not quite Grand Cru density to me. Good to enjoy young.
White
2017 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. Lush and tropical start with lots of spice. This is rich throughout, but finishes with the crunchy minerality and energy I expect from top Meursault Genevrières. The Boillot tasted next was more enjoyable today, but I think the Jadot will have more staying power. 92-93 point potential.

White
2017 Domaine Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
93 points
Walk around tasting. Floral and nutty start with lots of ripe apple aromas. Similar flavors and ripe and fleshy, starting out with impressive weight, then seemingly getting lighter towards finish. Good now, certainly more enjoyable than the Jadot tasted immediately prior, but I'm not sure it will have the same longevity.
White
2017 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Ripe, floral and complex aromas and flavors, showing lots of nuanced apple, lemon curd and lemon peel. Enticing start, more restrained middle. Very dense and powerful, just somewhat backward in the middle. Needs time, better 2025-. 93-94 point potential.
White
2017 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Walk around tasting. Very rich, ripe and powerful start-to-finish. Floral and well spiced, this certainly has a modern flair. Even richer than the Jadot Corton-Charlemagne, with the same impressive Grand Cru density. Also needing a few years to fully harmonize, better 2023-, also with 93-94 point potential.
White
2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
94 points
Walk around tasting. From 3L bottle. Great aromatic start with peach, lemon peel and yellow apple in charming combination with intensely floral notes. Great nose, good palate shows lots of reserve, finishing with engaging energy. Very good now.
White
2016 Scherrer Winery Chardonnay Scherrer Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
Walk around tasting. Pretty and rich but slightly lacking clear definition, with a more modern styled character and a bit of pronounced oak. Good, but less exciting to me than some of the other Scherrer wines tonight.
Rosé
2018 Scherrer Winery Dry Rosé USA, California, Sonoma County
Walk around tasting. Syrah / Grenache. Bright berries throughout with good balance and elegant textures. A very good value wine.
Red
2014 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Sonoma Coast USA, California, Sonoma County, Sonoma Coast
89 points
Walk around tasting. Bright red cherry with good combination of fat and tart fruit and savory spice. Good length. Good now. Entirely from Platt (even though there is also a Platt Vineyard designate bottling).

2012 Scherrer Winery Pinot Noir Russian River Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Walk around tasting. Ripe, opulent black cherry with cherry cola and sweet spice, very typically RRV. Good in its style, even if not a style that thrills me.
Red
2013 Scherrer Winery Zinfandel Old and Mature Vines Scherrer Vineyard Alexander Valley USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
88 points
Walk around tasting. Rich black and blue fruit with leather, smoked meat and savory spice. Overall good balance, this is a charming and restrained example of Zinfandel that anybody would enjoy.

2015 Scherrer Winery Cabernet Sauvignon Scherrer Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Alexander Valley
89 points
Walk around tasting. Plum and cassis with roasted meat, good depth and balance. Another very charming and good value wine.
Red
2015 Gaja Barolo Dagromis Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Walk around tasting. Black and red cherry comes across as big, ripe and dense, but also very firm. Slightly one dimensional, at least for now. Certainly less exciting than the three vintages of Barbaresco also tasted today. I don't think I have ever tasted this wine from any vintage before.

2012 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
91 points
Walk around tasting. Floral background hints with tart red and black cherry. Very dense on palate, but also clearly backward, but then ending with a long and intriguing finish. Lots here, even if not quite harmonious right now. All Gaja's vineyard designates were included in this Cuvée in 2012.
Red
2015 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Walk around tasting. Very ripe and powerful black and red cherry with sweet spice and roasted game. Subtle floral hints help make the aromas very appealing, while the palate just hints at its potential. I'd think 92-93+ point potential here, but probably 2035 forward. Much like another bottle from a month+ ago enjoyed more slowly over one dinner course.
Red
2016 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
95 points
Walk around tasting. Wow! Red cherry and berry aromas with dried roses, anise, fresh thyme and clove. Similar start on palate with robust red fruits again. Firm middle is followed by a long, elegant finish, even also slightly grippy for now. 95+ point potential, 2025 forward.

2016 Domaine Drouhin Oregon Pinot Noir Laurène USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Dundee Hills
91 points
Walk around tasting. Bright red cherry and berry with slightly sweet spice, very bright spice and a textural energy that made me think of Chambolle-Musigny. Good weight with better length. Tasty now, upside 91+ point potential.
Red
2016 DuMOL Pinot Noir Ryan Widdoes Vineyard USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Walk around tasting. Floral and spice driven start with ultra ripe red and black berries with sweet cherry cola. There might be too much pronounced new oak for now, but that will integrate. Good weight and length. Even though I don't consider this quite balanced or harmonious, I understand this is a style many people enjoy, and this wine is VERY well made in that style.
Red
1999 Maison Leroy Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Walk around tasting. Fully mature red fruit with even more earth. Previous bottles were fresher. Tonight's was certainly still good, but clearly starting its decline.
Red
2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. Complex array of red, black and blue berries throughout with floral charm. Perhaps still a bit of new oak protrudes, but otherwise very elegant and refined with a sneaky-long, powerful finish. Much better vs last time tasted a few years back. Glad to have bought a case at release!
Red
2005 Frédéric Magnien Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
87 points
Walk around tasting. Lots of red fruit, just not quite 1er Cru density. Good fruit and spice flavors, just perhaps a bit of new oak still pronounced. Good, but underwhelming for its terroir and great vintage.

2005 Patrice Rion Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. Complex cross-section of red and black berry aromas and flavors with pretty spice notes everywhere. Very pretty from start-to-finish with bright textures, most notably from the middle through finish. Totally softened tannins, so much so that I'd never have thought this from 2005 (I'd have thought 2002 if served blind). My only nit is that this also didn't show particularly "Gevrey" character, but I can deal with that.
Red
2005 Maison Alex Gambal Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
89 points
Walk around tasting. Good red fruit with spice hints and good balance. Just not close to Grand Cru density or nuance (yet?). Fun and easy, but I don't see the upside.
Red
2005 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
92 points
Walk around tasting. Plenty of savory and sweet spice with ripe red cherry. Vintage tannins still very pronounced middle through finish, reducing the overall elegance and charm. Lots here, but not quite as great as I would hope for this vintage...but I believe the domaine was in transition. Others liked this more than I did.
Red
2009 Domaine Ponsot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
93 points
Walk around tasting. From magnum. Pure black cherry and berry aromas and flavors with lots of density, muscle and roasted meat. Unmistakably Gevrey, and this is Laurent Ponsot at his finest and most transparent. I haven't tasted this since shortly after release, and was equally impressed tonight, even if this is still just hinting at its future greatness, 2025 forward.
White
2018 Domaine les Goubert Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet Blanc France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Côtes du Rhône Villages Sablet
Walk around tasting. Fun and easy, but certainly finishes warm. Viognier seems to dominate, even though I'm told it's just 10-20%. OK overall, but good enough for its price.
Red
2016 Domaine les Goubert Gigondas France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
87 points
Walk around tasting. Black cherry with dark chocolate. Good balance and length for its level and price. Good value wine.
Red
2015 Château La Caze Bellevue France, Bordeaux, Libournais, St. Émilion
Walk around tasting. Ripe and dense with a backward character. What nuance will emerge?
Red
2017 Cavallotto Langhe Nebbiolo Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Langhe DOC
Walk around tasting. Light red color with soft, fun red fruit aromas and faint spice. Palate is a bit of a punch on the mouth with tannins for now.
Red
2017 Pinea Ribera del Duero 17 Spain, Castilla y León, Ribera del Duero
Walk around tasting. Ripe and very ripe in a modern style I don't seek out, but I can see this as a nicely enjoyable wine to some.
