Flight 1 (20 notes)

Red
1999 Maison Leroy Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Earth and mushroom nose. Interesting but perhaps it's now a bit too rustic and tiring.
Red
2005 Domaine Henri Boillot Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
93 points
Really impressive and showing ready. Big nose of smoky, spicy black cherry. Fruit is round and plush. Very long and seamless. Young, for sure, but this is anything but hard or closed. At the front end of what should be a long drinking window.
Red
2005 Frédéric Magnien Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Charmes Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
Big, forward nose of ripe black cherry with over toast (in the form of smoke) and stems. Rich palate but quite woody and then loses concentration. Not sure this will ever come together and shed the oak.
Red
2005 Patrice Rion Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
92 points
A perfumed nose of black and red cherry with some smoke and meaty spice notes. Round and silky with great freshness and lift. Young, but ready and showing well now. A point or two of upside as this gains more nuance.
Red
2005 Maison Alex Gambal Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
Aromatically a bit closed. The palate is a bit dilute and lacking concentration. Simple with red fruits and some spice. Perhaps this is shut down. 87 point showing right now and I'm not sure it gets better with time.
Red
2005 Alain Hudelot-Noëllat Romanée St. Vivant France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
94 points
Perhaps it is label bias, but this was incredible both for its flashy showing tonight and its potential. Attractive nose with black cherry and a mix of exotic spices with a gentle mix of oak spice. Grand Cru density with 2005 fruit richness. Tannins are gritty, but not hard. Decadent and fun now, but better in 10+ years. Upside from here.
Red
2009 Domaine Ponsot Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
91 points
From magnum. Ripe and fleshy black cherry fruit that is mid-weight and very, very pure. For all the ripeness there is good brightness throughout. Young and one-noted right now. Upside if/as this sheds some fruit and picks up subtlety.
White
2014 Domaine Henri Boillot Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos de la Mouchère France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
93 points
From double magnum. A wow wine with Grand Cru concentration. So rich yet balanced and bright. Ripe, smokey orchard fruit that is lip-smacking delicious. Fresh with good grip throughout. Wonderful.

Red
2015 Gaja Barolo Dagromis Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
90 points
Fun now, if a little simple at this stage, with smoky cherry fruit and some sandalwood notes. Tannins are grippy but ripe in nature. Should add some complexity and age well.
Red
2015 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
Attractive red cherry nose is pure with florals throughout. Tasty red fruit meets grippy, firm tannins. Long finish. Should be a great wine in 15+ years. 93+
Red
2016 Gaja Barbaresco Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barbaresco
A wow wine in the making with so much more stuffing and intensity than the very good 2015 tasted immediately prior. Towering and layered nose of pure red cherries, with florals and spice. Big, rich fruit with plenty of structure beneath. This is still open and approachable but it will undoubtedly shut down soon and be ready in 15-20 years. 95+

2008 Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut La Grande Dame France, Champagne
92 points
Big, rich and ripe fruit meets taut acidity and an energetic bead. Great mouth coating fruit. In a good spot right now.

Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut Rosé France, Champagne
Current release from Magnum. Attractive, fruit forward nose with plenty of ripe red berries. Palate is a bit sweet and simplistic. Good but that's all. 87-88
White - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Grande Cuvée Edition 167eme France, Champagne
92 points
This Edition doesn't get as much love as other recent Editions, and probably rightfully so, but it's still darn good Champagne. Bold nose with plenty of orchard fruit, baked bread and toast. Dense with good richness and energy. Finish is perhaps simple and shorter than other editions.

Okay Krug Grande Cuvee, is still damn good in my book.
Rosé - Sparkling
N.V. Krug Champagne Brut Rosé Edition 23eme France, Champagne

Gorgeous full, layered nose of red berries, florals and toast. The palate is so delineated and persistent. A consistently great Rose Champagne.
White
2015 Domaine des Malandes Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
92 points
From magnum. I really love the aromas here with ripe green apple with some citrus and mineral. Palate is showing the vintage with ripeness and a tad less acidity than you might expect. Very good and should drink well young.
White
2017 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
The nose is very tropical at the moment with ripe fruit that reminds me of a creamy pina colada. The palate doesn't show the same ripeness and has plenty of crunchy, balancing acidity. This needs some time to settle in and should be a very good 1er Meursault. 91-92+

2017 Domaine Henri Boillot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Tasted immediately after the Jadot and I prefer this wine by a bit. The nose shows smoky, rich orchard fruit and spice. The palate is rich and racy all at once. Plenty of stuffing and richness to age. 93+
White
2017 Louis Jadot Corton-Charlemagne Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Aromas are tight and closed in at the moment. The palate is dense with Grand Cru concentration. Round fruit and chewy structure. Needs time to come together. 92-93+

2017 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Tasted immediately after the Jadot and preferred this by a margin. The nose is soaring and intense with an array of ripe orchard fruit, florals, smoke and mineral. The palate is dense and quite structured. Will need 5+ years to soften and integrate but the potential here is really great. 93-95+
