Red
2016 Louis Jadot Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Boudots Domaine Gagey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Red berry aromas. Silky and smooth with plenty of spice and some over toast. Should all come together nicely with time. 90-92
Red
2016 Louis Jadot Corton-Pougets Domaine des Héritiers Louis Jadot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru
Young, primary and stuffed yet this shows good intensity and length already. Structure is matched by concentrated fruit. Should be a strong vintage for one of my favorite Jadot reds. 92-94+
Red
2016 Benjamin Leroux Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Black cherry aromas are pleasant if a little nondescript for Vosne. A pretty and pleasant Pinot that will drink well young, but doesn't come across as particularly Vosne. 87-88
Red
2016 Benjamin Leroux Mazoyères-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Mazoyères-Chambertin Grand Cru
A real step up here with GC concentration. Rich black fruit already showing depth with spice and meat tones. 93+ in 10+ years.
Red
2017 Maison MC Thiriet Bourgogne Bourgogne Les Blanches France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Pommard fruit. Lots of dark red berries with a lot of flavor and textural nuance for a regional Pinot. Nicely fresh and charming right now.
Red
2017 Maison MC Thiriet Bourgogne Côte de Nuits Villages Aux Montagnes France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Fuller and more bright than the Bourgogne. Tasty red fruit with nice intensity for this level. Fresh. Good now.
Red
2016 Bernard Zito Vosne-Romanée Les Vigneaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Aromatically closed but forward and approachable on the palate. Nice brightness and plushness to the spicy fruit. Good value at the village level. 88+
Red
2017 Bernard Zito Savigny-lès-Beaune Ez Connardises France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune
Earthy, black and red cherry on the nose. Good florals and earth on the palate. This shows good nuance and layering. Very nice at this level. 89-91
Red
2016 Bouchard Père et Fils Beaune 1er Cru Clos de la Mousse France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
Earthy black fruit perfume. Yum, really round and tasty fruit showing good concentration and textural interest. Should improve with 5+ years. But delicious now. 90-91
Red
2016 Nicolas Rossignol Bourgogne France, Burgundy, Bourgogne
Earthy red and black cherry nose. Plush with good texture and balance. Easy to drink and enjoy now. 87-88
Red
2016 Nicolas Rossignol Pommard 1er Cru France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Pommard 1er Cru
Intense bright red cherry and floral nose. The palate is rich and dense with expansive red cherry. Well balanced and with a nice, long finish. Terrific. 91-93
Red
2016 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Intense floral and black cherry nose. A wow palate with silky and rich fruit that has a distinct mineral steak. Lively and fresh. Delicious now, should get better with time. 92-94
Red
2016 Nicolas Rossignol Volnay 1er Cru Santenots France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
More brooding and dark fruited than the Cailleret. Very large scaled and dense, with less subtlety at this stage. Whereas the Cailleret was giving now, this is all wound-up and dense potential. 92+ with a decade more more in the cellar.
Red
2016 Domaine Y. Clerget Volnay France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay
Nice red berry and florals in the nose. Moderate concentration with good brightness and intensity of fruit. Fun now. 88-90
Red
2016 Domaine Y. Clerget Volnay 1er Cru Clos du Verseuil France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Higher toned red fruit aromatics. Palate has great concentration and rich, polished fruit. Spice-filled long finish. Really tasty now though this has the stuffing to age. 92-93+
Red
2016 Domaine Y. Clerget Volnay 1er Cru Caillerets France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Volnay 1er Cru
Red berry and floral aromas. Good concentration, though a bit less than the Clos du Verseuil. Nice minerality here. Lifted and spicy finish. More open than a barrel sample at the domaine 18 months ago. 92+
Red
2016 Domaine Y. Clerget Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Full, dense, big black cherry in the nose. The palate is broad and expansive. Grand Cru concentration and serious richness. Long finish. Outstanding 93-94+ potential.
Red
2016 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Clos des Porrets St. Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Dense and tightly coiled black cherry with good spice, earth and clay accents. Will require time. 90-92
Red
2016 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Pruliers France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
More approachable. Alluring richness and depth. Very intense with excellent concentration of fruit. Excellent balancing and structure. Already fun now. 91-92+
Red
2016 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Vaucrains France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Very similar to the Pruliers in approachability, concentration and styling. Perhaps a touch more structured and dense in the finish suggesting this will need more time. 91-92+
Red
2016 Domaine Henri Gouges Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Saint Georges France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
More high toned and almost liqeur-like fruit. Wow, grand cru concentration, richness and depth. So much stuffing and layering. Powerful yet with delineation and precision. This is delicious now but really need 15+ years in the cellar. 93-94+
Red
2016 David Duband Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Cuvée Louis Auguste France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Hautes-Côtes de Nuits
Fresh cut strawberry. Easy drinking. Fresh, plush fruit. Very good berry-filled finish. 86-87
Red
2016 David Duband Gevrey-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin
Approachable and forward fruit. A bit simple and one noted and not giving me a ton of Gevrey character. 86-88
Red
2016 David Duband Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Aux Thorey France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
Plenty of Vosne spice throughout. Plush fruit with very good concentration. No hard edges and more akin to Vosne than NSG. 90-92
Red
2016 David Duband Charmes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru
A step up in concentration showing GC quality. Rich, mouth-coating fruit with balancing grip. Nice depth and Gevrey meatiness in the finish. 92+
Red
2016 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Vosne-Romanée France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Red cherry with spice. Fruit is fully approachable already. A bit more easy drinking than i would have guessed. 87-88

Red
2016 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru Les Chaignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits St. Georges 1er Cru
A step in density and concentration from the Vosne village. So much rich fruit that is both polished and grippy with structure. An excellent vintage for this wine. Fun now, better in 5-10 years. 92-93+

2016 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Ruchottes-Chambertin France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru

Red
2016 Domaine Georges Mugneret-Gibourg Clos Vougeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Dense, rich and monolithic at this early age. Stuffed with so much depth and breadth on the palate. Will be a terrific vintage for this wine. 94-95+
Red
2016 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée La Colombiere France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Exuberant spice and black cherry nose. Plush, ripe mouthfeel with very good spice intensity for a Village wine. 91+
Red
2016 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée Clos du Château France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
More intensity than the La Colombiere with sultry and inviting spicy black cherry. Ripe, spice-accented fruit on the palate with good concentration and polish. 92+
Red
2016 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru Aux Reignots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru
A step up in depth and concentration from the Village wines. The aromas here are more dense and brooding with the same spicy, ripe black fruit character. Palate is similarly a step up in depth and concentration. Whereas the Village wines were approachable, this is still holding back and needs time to unfold. 92-94+
Red
2016 Domaine du Comte Liger-Belair Echezeaux France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru
And yet another step up. The aromas are darker and denser. The palate conversely is forward with incredibly silky and poised black cherry fruit. Terrific concentration and plushness. Really sexy texture in a unique style that suits Vosne. 93-95+
Red
2016 Hubert Lignier Morey St. Denis Trilogie France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis
Moderate nose of black cherries. Round and plush in the mouth with light-to-moderate concentration. 86-88
Red
2016 Hubert Lignier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Vieilles Vignes France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Earth and some horsey tones in the aromas. Round and plush in the mouth with moderate concentration. Plenty of firm structure on the back of the palate that clamps this down. This will need 10+ years to soften and integrate. 91-93+
Red
2016 Hubert Lignier Morey St. Denis 1er Cru Les Chaffots France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Morey St. Denis 1er Cru
Even more brooding and firm than the 1er VV. I wouldn't call it hard, because the fruit is there and plush, but this has a lot of grit and structure. Will need 10+ years in the cellar. 91-92+
Red
2016 Hubert Lignier Clos de la Roche France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
A wow nose that is captivating, even in this rapid fire tasting format -- pure black and red cherry with intense spice. Grand Cru concentration with serious intensity of flavor. Pure, powerful fruit that shines through despite clear structure. Texturally complex. One of the best wines in the entire tasting. 96+

2016 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Bougros Côte Bouguerots France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Open knit and forward already. A step up in concentration from the 1er Crus but perhaps more open and friendly too. Fresh and lively in the finish. 91-92+
White
2016 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
The most 'Grand Cru' in the line up. Bigger and bolder in flavor and concentration. Pure and crystalline fruit. Will need 5+ years in the cellar. 92-93+

2017 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis 1er Cru Vaillon France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Excellent purity of green apple fruit with crystalline minerality. A step up in concentration and depth from the Village Chablis. Another wine that should be good young. 89-90
White
2014 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
A wow nose here with big and flamboyant orchard fruit, sea breeze and minerality. The palate is dense and big with terrific concentration. Bright acidity. Needs another 5+ years. 92-94+

2012 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos Clos des Hospices dans Les Clos France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Similar to the 2014 tasted immediately prior, though a bit more tropical in flavor. The palate also has a shade more ripe fruit and lushness. But make no mistake this is a concentrated and crisp Chablis that should age just fine. I slightly preferred the 2014 for it's more classic character. 92-93+

White
2016 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Denser and more concentrated than the Pourzots. Good ripe fruit character that is a bit blocky at the moment. Needs a year or two, I suspect. 90-91+
White
2016 Domaine Francois et Antoine Jobard Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
The most open in the line up. Rich, ripe and lush fruit that has adequate freshness and lift. Good now and one to enjoy earlier, I think. 90-92
White
2016 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault Clos de la Barre France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault
Fruit forward and charming already with citrus and smoke accents to the orchard fruit. Fresh and easy to enjoy now. 91-92+
White
2016 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Meursault 1er Cru Charmes France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
A real step up from the Clos de la Barre with more brooding and concentrated fruit. Powerful and coiled up at the moment. Will need 5+ years to unfold. 92-93+
White
2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet
Bright fruit with good energy throughout. Fun now, if on the simple side. 87-88
White
2016 Domaine Leflaive Meursault 1er Cru Sous le Dos d'Âne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
More richness here vs. the Village Puligny. Good density though still a bit simple in flavor and texture. 89-90
White
2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clavoillon France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Good richness to the toasty and oak-inflected orchard fruit. Flashy with adequate acidity to keep it fresh. Delicious with near-term upside as the gains some nuance. 92+
White
2016 Domaine Leflaive Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Pucelles France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
The crown jewel in today's line up. Fantastic nose with so much layering of intense smoke, florals and spice on top of the orchard fruit. Rich and concentrated with fresh acids and minerality. Bright finish. Delicious now and should be even better with 5+ years. 93+
White
2016 Domaine Bernard Moreau et Fils Saint-Aubin 1er Cru En Remilly France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin 1er Cru
Bright orchard fruit with good minerality and acidic edge. Good now. 90-91

White
2016 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Blanc France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
A terrific Beaune Blanc with bright and racy structure and rich, concentrated fruit. Good balance and tension. Drinking well already with upside. 92+
White
2016 Marquis de Laguiche (Joseph Drouhin) Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Very rich and chunky white fruit that isn't yet integrated with the structure and comes across a bit awkward right now. Not as ready or enjoyable as the CdM blanc. Better with time, I think. 90+
Red
2016 Joseph Drouhin Beaune 1er Cru Clos des Mouches Rouge France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru
So elegant and appealing right now with an array of red fruits, florals and earth tones. Moderate concentration with round, soft edges throughout. Smooth finish. Good already. 90-92.
Red
2016 Joseph Drouhin Chambertin-Clos de Bèze France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru
A clear step up in richness, concentration and intensity. So much meaty spice lacing the black cherry. Great polish and delineation. Long. Pedigree is already coming through. 94-95+ points as the gains depth and complexity in the cellar.
