Introduction

The crew got together along with a few more to have a total of 8 guests and plenty of wine.
The wines showed well. All the great wines showed at top form. I couldn't ask for a better tasting.
The food was meh at best. sides were bordering on diner food and I thought the steak was just okay - certainly not worth the tariff. I think I am spoiled by Flanerry Beef.

Flight 1 (3 notes)

White
2016 Andreas Durst Chardonnay Germany, Pfalz
89 points
Served Blind - starts out quite pure and tight with strong citrus zest. with air it showed oak, more buttery/creamy texture. Preferred it when it was zesty...
White - Sparkling
1987 Peter Lauer Saar Riesling Brut Reserve Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer
90 points
Served Blind - was fooled on this one - super smoky, a touch reductive. has profound candied ginger on nose and palate. With air, it begins to integrate and less smoky. Very interesting bubbles.
White
2010 Henri Boillot Corton-Charlemagne France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
93 points
served blind. Quite volumptuous but has all the elements of acidity, fruit, intrigue that makes this a winner.

Flight 2 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
94 points
Blind. Probably my wotn. so elegant. definitely California but had such nice feminine qualities. Fruit is in an excellent place. Drink em if you got them. Nicely stored bottle.
Red
1991 Forman Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Napa Valley
90 points
showed more advanced than the 89 Dunn. touches of funk and possible va blew off with air. darker side of fruit - plums. nice wine.

Flight 3 (2 notes)

Red
1989 Château Pichon Longueville Comtesse de Lalande France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac
excellent. long life still ahead. excellent fruit. enjoyable.
Red
2005 Château Beychevelle France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Julien
92 points
still tightly wound but showing a good amount of dark fruit along with pencil shavings and tobacco. mixes between classic and modern. I liked it.

Flight 4 (2 notes)

Red
2006 Shafer Cabernet Sauvignon Hillside Select USA, California, Napa Valley, Stags Leap District
87 points
a bit too ripe for me. very plush and velvety but missing a spiny backbone to give it intrigue.
Red
2005 Château Calon-Ségur France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
92 points
tightly wound but a very nice package. Give this another decade to unfurl. Has all the stuffing for sure.

Flight 5 (3 notes)

Red
1992 Dunn Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon Howell Mountain USA, California, Napa Valley, Howell Mountain
94 points
great showing. So charming and elegant. bright fruit that has mellowed with age. some orange peel and spice give it more intrigue. I really like this.
Red
1986 Château Cos d'Estournel France, Bordeaux, Médoc, St. Estèphe
94 points
A strong tie for WOTN - exceptional. Has all the classic Bordeaux elements of dark fruit mixed with lead pencil shavings, earth notes, plums, some sweet spices. all staying fresh and alive.

Red
2009 Lambert Bridge Cabernet Sauvignon USA, California, Sonoma County

kind of flabby at this stage. Very ripened fruit. tough to show well with an evening of stellar wines.
